Veterans honored at annual ceremony held Saturday
On the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918. The date was declared a national holiday in many Allied nations, and coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, which are public holidays.
Armistice Day as it was originally called, was a day to celebrate cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I.
Deputies with the Llano County Sheriff’s Office should soon get body cameras.
The Llano County Commissioners Court on Monday voted to approve the request from Sheriff Bill Blackburn to purchase the cameras and enter a tazer replacement agreement.
The request would allow the sheriff to shift funds from vehicles, purchasing three instead of four this fiscal year, and instead use those funds for body cameras and tazers.

No action was taken for the second straight Monday after a closed session related to the municipal judge at a Llano City Council meeting.
The council met in a closed session at the Nov. 6 regularly scheduled meeting and met again in closed session for almost an hour and 45 minutes on Monday night.
After being introduced over a year ago, the first annual Commercial Heifer Pair Sale was held at the John L Kuykendall Arena last week.
FFA and 4-H participants purchased the heifers in Llano County 16 months ago from established ranches. The kids have accomplished and learned about the beginning stages of a commercial cow/calf operation.
UIL Academic Teams at Llano High School competed Nov. 4 at the Pflugerville Pfall Pfling meet.
We would like to congratulate the accounting team for their first place team finish! Returning members and former regional qualifiers are seniors Chance Bailey and Chantalle Barret, who led the team to their victory. Freshman Samantha Allen had a strong contribution to the win on her very first meet.

The Llano Special Olympians competed in a three-day Area 13 Bowling Competition with over 1,300 athletes in Austin from Nov. 3-5.
Llano was well represented with nine students participating in every age group. The athletes trained for two months beginning in September.
This year the Yellow Jacket team took home four gold medals from Selena Blaise, James Burke, Jake Yocum, and Angelo Crofts.
Bronze medals were earned by Mary Shaffer, Mitch Dunn, Landon Larson and Meloni Lamar.
The football Jackets, for the first time in school history, will meet the same playoff team three years in a row. Crystal City is the foe. Llano won in 2015, 42-26, while the Javelinas prevailed a year ago, 22-18.
The bi-district contest is at Incarnate Word, San Antonio, 7:30, Friday, November 17.
“8-2 translates into confidence,” said head coach Matt Green, concerning Crystal City’s record.
AUSTIN—The Chris Armstrong era for Llano basketball opened at St. Dominic Savio, November 10, and Savio offered an outstanding offensive unit, defeating the Jackets, 8657.

A very rough start for the Lady basketball Jackets. The bad news is the scores were similar; the good news is limited, but give head coach Jerry McSherry credit for being upbeat, November 10, following a 67-28 loss to Jarrell at home. This came three days after a 64-21 set-back in Fredericksburg.
“Our effort was better,” said McSherry, after the loss to Jarrell.
We have featured Llano County’s Ed Thompson a number of times because of his championship performances in body building—and his sixth-place landing in the Nationals in July. He’s more dominant in Texas in the 70-and-over crowd than Tom Brady is among quarterbacks, and he proved it again in the State Championships in Arlington, November 4.

The Llano Freshmen Jackets concluded their season this past Thursday as they hosted the Mason Punchers. The Jackets were impressive from start to finish as they routed the Punchers by the score of 41-14.
With the victory, the Freshmen upped their overall record to 8-2 just missing out on an undefeated season as their two losses were by one point each.
The Llano 7th Grade Daubers ended their Cinderella season by shutting out the previously undefeated Mason Punchers by the score of 28-0.
With the victory, the 7th Grade Daubers ended their season undefeated with a perfect 9-0 record. The 7th Graders dominated their opponents as their offense scored 284 points on the season while their defense only gave up 26 points.
The Dauber defense shut out 6 of their final 7 opponents and only allowed one touchdown after the second game of the season.
This past Saturday the Lady Daubers hosted a tournament for all four of the teams. Playing in the tournament along with Llano was Brady and Sonora.
7A Division
The winner of the 7A division was your Lady Daubers. They were 1-1 but won the tie breaker on points allowed.
7B Division
This division saw the visitors from Brady win the tournament; They were 1-1 and just did get by Llano on points allowed winning by 4 points.
8A Division

James Larry Bush, born July 30, 1945 and longtime resident of Llano, passed away from natural causes on Oct. 13, 2017. As a student at Llano High School and later at Ranger Junior College, Mr. Bush won many medals and ribbons in track and field. He was recognized in newspaper articles for his significant contributions to the many tournament and championship competitions in which he participated.
He studied business and accounting and later held a real estate license as well.
David Warren (Chip) Strayhorn passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, in Llano Texas at the age of 91. He was born Oct. 17, 1926 in Snyder, to Duanna and Lee Roy Strayhorn.
David graduated from Llano High School in 1945 and then enlisted in the Merchant Marines. He married Mildred Janner on June 3, 1949 in Austin.
