Llano's Heritage Days Festival a Huge Success

The Llano County Sheriff's Office issued a warning to Llano County area residents after receiving several complaints of people getting phone calls claiming that they have won prizes.
According to Llano County Sheriff's Investigator Bucky Boswell, a man has been calling area residents posing as an agent for Publisher's Clearinghouse, and telling them that they have won $2.5 million and a Mercedes.

Halloween means children getting outdoors to enjoy treats, fun, and games. Although Halloween comes before the change back to Standard Time this year, the days are getting shorter, and the nights are getting longer. With shorter days comes more night driving. Because nighttime driving is more dangerous, it requires extra attention from motorists, as well as pedestrians and bicyclists.

On Oct. 5, a man arrested and placed into custody at the Llano County Jail was found to have an active case of tuberculosis. It was confirmed through the Texas Department of Health; the male subject was supposed to be on home quarantine.
TDH told the officer on duty, Sergeant Derrick Curtis, that the subject needed to either be sent back home, or placed in a negative pressure cell.
Llano County Election Administrator Cindy Ware said voters who cast a "straight party" vote in the upcoming election should be aware that other issues appear on the ballot after the Democratic and Republican Party contests. Ware said that unless straight party ticket voters hit "Enter" to scroll past six "screens"
17 Years of Community Service
The employees of Hill Country MHDD Centers (Hill Country), along with their families, came together at the Heart O' the Hills Camp outside Kerrville for a picnic to honor those who served for 5, 10 and 15 years and to celebrate 17 years of serving individuals living with mental illness and developmental disabilities.

On Tuesday, October 14, the HLRW held its October General Meeting at the Llano Library. Justice Jeff Rose, a Republican, currently serves on the 3rd Court of Appeals, Place 2, a position to which he was elected in 2010. Justice Rose is seeking to replace retiring Justice J. Woodfin Jones as Chief Justice of the Court and has an opponent on the November ballot.
His address to the group focused on how the court system works and the role of the Court of Appeals in the court system.

Commissioner John Kight, Chairman of Hill Country MHDD Centers (Hill Country) recently swore in Hill Country board members to their new terms of office. Hill Country provides mental health, developmental disability, early childhood intervention, and substance abuse services to a nineteen county area of the greater Texas Hill Country. Board members are appointed for two year terms to represent a single county or multiple counties, based on population.

I have had unlimited local and long distance service at a fixed price with Verizon for several years. My September bill increased about $25 and October increased by $160.
After an investigation, I found that Verizon had allowed a third party phone company to take over my long distance service - without my knowledge or permission.
Grace Lorraine Wood Tait, 87, of Marble Falls, Texas, passed away October 17, 2014. Grace was born September 19, 1927 in Dickson City, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1945 and married John Tait in Scranton on September 20, 1947. As newlyweds, John and Grace moved to New York State and lived in Vestal for 35 years while John worked as a Senior Engineer at IBM.
Patsy Maxine Ochsner of Midland, Texas passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 76. She was born to Beulah (Earl) and Robert Akin on February 19, 1938, in Southmayd, Texas. Patsy graduated valedictorian from Seagoville High School in 1956 where she was an All-State and All-Star basketball star.
Richard "Dick" Hoerster of Fredericksburg passed away on Tuesday, October 21st at his residence at the age of 86 years. Richard Hoerster was born on March 6, 1928 in Mason County "Art", Texas to Dan John and Pearl Jordan Hoerster. He married Maxie Lehmann on February 10, 1951 in the Grace Lutheran Church, Houston, Texas

Clifford L. Larson, 81, of Kingsland, Texas passed away on October 8, 2014. He was born to Willard and Viola (Boomgarden) Larson on June 14, 1933 in Belvidere, Illinois.
Mr. Larson proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and spent some time in Germany. He returned home and worked for thirty years in the National Grey Iron Foundry and also for the Illinois Tollway in Belvidere, Illinois.
There are certain historical events that happen in the course of a life time that everyone remembers. In my parent's generation it was the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Anyone who was around at that time and old enough to remember can tell you exactly where they were and what they were doing when this tragic event occurred.
I must confess I am not up to date with the latest technical gizmos. So much technology is around today that I believe most people have really lost their identity. I do not think they will soon recover.
I am not against modern technology; I simply cannot keep up with it.
We're approaching another appointment with destiny: an opportunity to take part in electing those upon whom we'll confer the authority to govern; to enhance or encumber our lives. What kind of people should we elect?
Solomon said the first requirement for any ruler ought to be a desire to do right: "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan"
