DALLAS—This is normally the time when hope springs eternal, as football borrows the phrase from baseball during Spring Training. There may be hope among Texas fans, but eternal, as a companion, must have lost its way to Columbus, Ohio. The Rogue Nation may have had more optimism in its 10-rounder with Ethan Hunt than diehard Horn backers have for their 2015 gridiron edition. The negatives include a contest for quarterback between Tyrone Swoopes, who did not prove himself last year, and Jerrod ...
About ten species of termites can be found in the semi-arid and arid regions of the American Southwest. The desert termite, Gnathamitermes tubiformans, is one of the most common species in western Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. People often mistake desert termites for subterranean termites in the genus Reticulitermes. Although both live in the soil, only the Reticulitermes subterranean termite is considered a structural pest. Desert termites do not damage man-made structures ...
What you do is important. How you do it may be even more important. Wise Solomon wrote: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). Paul added: “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men” (Colossians 3:23). Jesus was the greatest example of one who gave Himself completely to every task.
This is the time of the year when rain is a frequent visitor, especially in the afternoon. It is then that a person is tempted to go outside and dance in the rain. One famous singer was so caught up with a rainy afternoon that he did his famous, “Singing in the rain.” At my age, the only dancing I do is the bathroom shuffle, which has become more frequent than usual lately. The early Native Americans used to do their “Rain Dance,” in the hopes that some rain would come their way and wat ...

Dear Editor, The devil is winning! Be sober and be vigilant for your adversary the devil roams about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Have you noticed the acceleration of evil? Biblical values are falling aside daily. The efforts to destroy God’s handiwork are moving faster and faster. The Lord reminded me that upon His death on the cross Satan rejoiced.
Dear Editor, What if . . . Some questions to consider as the media circus gets under way for the 2016 presidential election: What if Americans have no say in who becomes the presidential candidate for each major party? What if both political parties are controlled by a secret cabal of international bankers and war profiteers? What if this secret cabal controls the voting machines and counts the votes in secrecy? What if the election outcome is decided long before election time? What if thi ...
Dear Editor, The major consideration as to whether to trim expenses in the county’s JP courts is their case load – at least it is according to the Texas Judicial Branch that reports on this stuff. However, none of the JPs want to talk about it.  So I will. According to the Texas Judicial Branch’s “Annual Statistical Report for the Texas Judiciary Fiscal Year 2014,” there are 817 Justice of the Peace Courts in the State of Texas.  There are four in Llano County.

It's hard to believe that it has been six months since my swearing in as your Llano County Judge and so far, it has been an interesting, challenging, and rewarding experience. Here, I wish to provide Llano taxpayers with an update on the current condition of the county and announce some forward looking plans that I believe will ensure more efficient use of tax dollars and benefit to tax payers in various departments of our county government.
Advisory Boards are critical to any long-term success and efficiencies. Ad hoc committees are equally necessary, being short-term, single issue-specific and having a projectable finite life which is a function of the prescribed task. Advisory Boards – I would strongly encourage you to Google/Wikipedia such for a better understanding. Also Google “advisory boards” with respect to Texas cities/municipalities.
Because the TV Broadcast of the Republican Presidential Forum and Debate on FOX will occur on our normally scheduled meeting night the Steering Committee has agreed that our August 6 meeting should be canceled. We believe it would be better for all to see the debate than to rush through a meeting to allow people to get home in time. We regret the last minute notice but after thinking about the ...

They used to say, “You can’t fight City Hall,” but several hundred friends of Joe Buck Simpson decided to try their hand at taking on the Llano ISD and discovered, “By golly, the pen is mightier than the sword.” Facebook, in this case, was the conduit of the pen. Dear Editor, I believe there are two types of people in the world: those who deal in opinion, and those who deal in fact. And that's a belief of mine, not an opinion. Kind of like we believe God exists, we don't just have an opinion on it. So it's a fact that if you drive over to the intersection of Hwy 16 and Hwy 29 you'll see a billboard with an offer to drill wells in granite for $12.50 a foot. It's also a fact that the ex-Mayor's million dollar City well project, about a thousand foot hole ...
