1928-2016
Roy Lee Williams, 87, of Kingsland, Texas passed away on January 10, 2016. He was born to Shirley Albert and Pansy Ellen (Drace) Williams in Llano County, Texas on January 15, 1928. DC Comics heroes Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman joined Marvel Comics heroes Wolverine and Iron Man in the Community Building of Llano ISD at Monday night’s meeting of the School Board. To clarify, posters of faces of the Board members were drawn with costumes of those heroes. “Super Heroes of Schools” was the theme of the meeting honoring the Board members and administrators for Texas’ School Board Recognition Month.
My son-in-law, John Crabb of Lakeway, had an original thought—which means my opening here won’t be original, but who can think of something clever and different about Alabama’s 45-40, national championship win over Clemson? “It sure was a good game” isn’t much of a grabber. John said, “It’s not so much the SEC that’s so powerful, it’s the area of the country.” Evidence: the last 11 national champs have been Texas, LSU, Florida (twice), Auburn, Alabama (four times), Florida ...
I am not an MD, I’ve never played football, and I rarely review movies, so I guess I’m out of my league—but I saw Concussion, so here goes. I am indeed a fan, and I make a small portion of my living off the sport, writing about games. The movie is valuable to see so that you, at least, become aware, or gain more awareness, of the hazards of football’s collisions.
It is a bit unusual when both head coaches are a bit down after a game when, of course, one of them had to win. Joe Downey’s (appropriate) name and demeanor were understandable after the Llano girls, January 8, sustained a 69-29 beating by Liberty Hill in the 25-4A opener. It was a little surprising that the Panthers’ Chris Lange wasn’t so happy, either.
Are you relieved 2015 is in the rearview mirror? Do the headlines have you apprehensive about 2016? Here are five daily disciplines to make this your greatest year: 1. Rise thankfully. “Are you having a good day?” I asked a bank teller. “This morning I was able to place my feet on the floor,” she replied, breaking into a smile.
The New Year festivities have died down quite a bit and everything seems calm in our blissful domicile. The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage is back to her routine of organizing and straightening everything up. Her motto is: “A place for everything and everything in its place.” She is quite faithful in her New Year’s resolutions.
The year 2016 represents the beginning of the eighteenth decade since Texas achieved independence from Mexico in 1836. Llano County wasn’t created until 1856. Since 2016 is a mile stone in our county’s history, a review of significant events pertaining to Llano County will be recognized as the New Year gets underway. Of course, prior to 1836, Texas was under the rule of Spain for over 250 years.

Dear Editor, I’m writing about the latest battle in Llano. It seems during the drought all we heard was that we needed to reserve water and collect rain water to use on our yards, flowers, etc. Now we are told it will pollute our water system. Also, what’s the deal with Mr.
Dear Editor, Oh, for the times when common sense could be used versus the language of an ambiguous ordinance.  Using common sense in interpreting the word air gap would be nice.  With 50 or more wells, being on a river, and water catching tanks on the increase in this city, many are going to be unfairly affected. An air gap has a complicated definition, but the danger of a mud hole getting water back into a water system far exceeds an unattached well.  Not so?  Attach a wate ...
