The students and staff of Llano ISD are reaching a familiar point in the school year. The excitement of beginning a new year is gone, the first grading period is over, and the path to Thanksgiving break still seems in the distant future. Although we have settled into the routine school schedule, there are many exciting things happening around our district that both students and the community can be a part of. On Oct.

The job task “Preparing and Serving food” is done daily with a greater purpose in mind here at Llano ISD because we know that our school meals play a critical role for our students: • USDA research indicates that children who participate in School Lunch have superior nutritional intakes compared to those who do not participate. • Students who eat Breakfast at school: o Are more attentive o Have improved math grades o Improves students
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the “Pink Out” pep rally at Llano Junior High was Thursday, Oct. 6. The students at the Junior High decided to raise a little money by selling T-shirts and chances to “pie” a teacher in the face at the pep rally. They set a goal of $200 and then asked several businesses in town contribute matching funds.
The Llano County Commissioners approved a replat for a Kingsland RV park on Tuesday, about two months after it first appeared before the court. The replat for Tucker Street RV Park was approved by a 4-1 vote, with Precinct 3 Commissioner Ron Wilson voting against it. The motion originally appeared before the commissioners on Aug.
Rowell has been enchanted by rocks since his youth
Most kids love to collect rocks when they’re young. Some of them, like Frank Rowell, never outgrow that fascination. Rowell, the owner and operator of the Enchanted Rocks & Jewelry shop in Llano, said he has always loved rocks and that’s why he stopped being a machinist in his early twenties and went into the jewelry business. Originally from New Hampshire, Rowell spent time in New Mexico and Colorado as a rock hound and eventually found his way to Llano in 2001 with his wife Patricia F ...
This weekend is time to welcome the Wild West to Llano. With locations scattered all over Llano, there is something for just about everyone. Vendors will start setting up on Friday evening around the square, along Oatman Street and at Grenwelge Park. There will be live entertainment on the Gazebo located at the Llano County Courthouse, and also at Grenwelge Park from 10 a.m.
More than 50 artists from all over the United States converged in Llano last weekend for the fourth annual Western Trappings art exhibit, which also included a juried show and live auction. The weekend kicked off with the artist’s reception on Friday at the Llano Historical Museum. The reception was open to the public and provided local “trappings” enthusiasts the opportunity to meet the artists and purchase items that caught their fancy.
The Llano Youth Football and Cheer teams played at split venues this past Saturday as the 3rd and 4th Grade Junior Varsity team traveled to Fredericksburg to take on the Billies while the 5th and 6th Grade Varsity team played host to the Goldthwaite Eagles. The JV Jackets played hard but just came up short to the Billies as they lost 12-0.

I’m a Tony Romo fan. I like to watch him play and succeed, which means the Cowboys succeed. But, if Jerry Jones and/or Jason Garrett give me a ring — and I recognize the number — I’m going to tell them Dak Prescott should keep his job as starting quarterback. Let’s say Romo comes back from his injury in three weeks. If Prescott, the rookie QB from Mississippi State who is 4-1 as a pro, does well in the next two game ...
There were positives — not many for sure — but a couple. Navarro was, is, and will be a power, so, whereas a 42-0 loss sounds bad, and it was, the Panthers (7-0) are beating everyone like that. They are ranked second in the state, Class-4A, Division II, and must be referred to as perennials, as difficult to take on as Jack Reacher. Positive #2: the Jackets’ first half was admirable, trailing just 14-0.
Fine wine ages well, and that’s what the Llano High volleyball team is doing — but it’s not taking years; it’s taking days to put into a daze most of its 19-4A opponents. The latest to fall was highly regarded Salado, three games to one, October 4. The Jackets are a heady 5-2 in district — three of the wins, including the just-mentioned triumph, have arrived after trailing, 1-0. “These girls can react well to being dow ...
LAMPASAS — The previews make it look like the full-length feature is going to be a good one. The run-through — literally — wasn’t Off Broadway, but it was off 281. It was the Pre-District Cross Country Relays. The Badger campus and course provided the scene, October 6, and 19-4A contestants will make the same road trip — to open the postseason — October 15. The Llano High girls were second among 16 schools, w ...
Dear Editor, I appreciate the Llano County Master Gardeners, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, Llano Chamber Of Commerce, and all the supporters and volunteers who created such a wonderful spot at the Depot Garden. This is a great asset to Llano. Monarch waystations are being planted along the Hwy. 35 corridor. Llano and Fredericksburg are a great start to a Hwy.
