In the blink of an eye we are nine weeks into the 2016-2017 school year. They always say time flies when you are having fun! I have thoroughly enjoyed being welcomed into this wonderful community with so many incredible people that truly support each other. There are so many blessings that accompany this beautiful town, it is simply full of good people, the kind of people you want your children to know.
Early Thursday morning, Badu Park began to look more like a set for a Hollywood movie as Chuck Wagons from all over Texas arrived for the 12th Llano River Chuck Wagon Cook-off. Coming off a banner year in 2015 when the cook-off was awarded the Best Chuck Wagon event in America, there was lots of excitement in the air for this year’s event.
Live entertainment in two locations on Saturday, and for five hours on Sunday, vendors on the square and at Grenwelge Park, Red Top Jail Tours, a cobbler contest and gun fights, the Llano Wild West Weekend was set. Visitors from all over the country came to Llano to relive the old west, and vendors as far away as Colorado.

At the end of a very long Llano ISD board of trustees meeting Monday, the trustees agreed on the selection of a firm to aid in the hunt for a new superintendent. Pope is taking the ‘Forrest Gump’ run across the country
Robert Pope isn’t on your ordinary cross-country journey. The Liverpool, England, native and champion marathoner is following the route the fictional character and movie namesake Forrest Gump took from Mobile, Ala., to the Pacific Ocean in California in his cross-country run. Pope began the journey last month and made his way through Llano on Thursday. As Pope came into town along Hwy.
A packed crowd saw the best of the first-ever PRCA Xtreme Bulls competition held in Llano on Saturday night, as part of Wild West Weekend. The John L Kuykendall Arena was cut in half Saturday night for the event. What has been a PRCA Rodeo the past two years was changed midstream to the bull riding, and the move was brilliant as far as attendance was concerned.
WIMBERLEY — Eight days, two games. Season on the line. Losing to Burnet, Navarro, and, most recently, the Texans (35-16), was painful but borderline acceptable, and head coach Craig Slaughter reports the six teams, which have beaten Llano, have a combined record of 34-7. It sounds unusual, but the Jackets (2-6) can deliver a blow for respectability with victories over Hondo (1-6), October 21 at home, and at Bandera (2-6), O ...
LAMPASAS — The Jackets’ Long Day’s Journey Into Night was — to be accurate — a Long Night’s Journey Into Morning. With postseason hopes in the air and on the ground, there was success on both ends. Indoors and outdoors. With a ball, without a ball. The Llano High cross country teams, with five individuals finishing in the Top Ten in the 19-4A Meet, the girls’ and boys’ squads were third out of seven school ...
The Llano Youth Football and Cheer teams hosted the Lago Vista Vikings this past Saturday at Jacket Stadium. This was the last weekend of the regular season with the playoffs starting next week. Both teams have had great seasons with each team qualifying for the four team playoffs. The varsity goes into the playoffs with a 7-1 record and the #2 seed while the JV enters the playoffs as the #3 seed and a 4-4 record. Both teams will travel to Lago Vista this coming Saturday.
The Llano Dauber 7th and 8th grade teams battled the Wimberley Texans for their second district game of the season. The 7th Graders played a combined A & B team game while the 8th Graders played both an A and B team games. The 7th Graders will travel to Hondo while the 8th Graders play host to the Owls.
The Llano sub-varsity teams tangled with the Wimberley Texans this past Thursday night. The freshmen traveled to Wimberley while the JV played host to the Texans at the friendly confines of Jacket Stadium. Both teams saw the benefit of a home field advantage as the JV throttled the Texans 37-8 while the freshmen were shutout by Wimberley 28-0. Both teams now turn their attention to the Hondo Owls as the freshmen host the Owls this Thursday at Jacket Stadium with a 7 p.m.
John Black is the beleaguered coach no more. For three years, if it were Tuesday or Friday in district, it was a defeat. 30 matches, mainly setbacks. A real-life illness or two didn’t help, either. The theater of on-court misery brought down its curtain, October 14, when the volleyball Jackets won one thriller inside a pair of routine triumphs against Leander Glenn and swept their way to clinching a playoff berth. “{The girls} did a great job coming together,
LAMPASAS — Prior to the huge win over Leander Glenn, chronicled close by, Llano’s volleyball team tuned up, October 11, by downing the winless Badgers, 3-0. This one started as it should — a 9-1 Jacket advantage — then got a little ugly, as Lampasas came back to lead, 16-15. What followed was form prevailing: Erin Franklin, a kill to the back line. Molly Lindner, a save/dig and a point on the same play. Kaymon Lange — a kill and block. Faith Man ...

Dear Editor, Recently I was transported by EMS to the Llano Hospital which resulted in an overnight stay. The care I received from EMS, the emergency room staff, the nursing staff, the x-ray technician and Dr. David Hoerster was excellent. We need the hospital to be more than just an emergency stop.
Dear Editor, I went to the Llano track at the middle school to do my usual walking. To my disappointment there was a sign that said the track was closed to the public due to vandals. I have a couple of thoughts on this sign. First, it is so terribly disappointing to see this happen in Llano.
