Packsaddle Elementary is a school that fits the profile of so many other elementary schools. Kids enter the building every day, some of them are hungry, some of them are dirty, some of them have spent the time away from school in a home without electricity or water; despite their circumstances, they all come to school wanting to learn.
This past Saturday the Llano Community Center Board opened the doors to the 14th annual Llano Haunted House. This year’s house is larger than ever before and at times a little scary. Guests are greeted at the entrance by a young lady, a cyborg of sort, and taken to the first room where they are showed a short movie about what to expect, and a warning for the faint of heart.
After a three and a half-year journey, the Llano disc golf course is open. The 9-hole disc golf course, which is a joint venture between the Llano Alliance for Drug Intervention (LADI) and the City of Llano, opened Saturday with a ribbon cutting at its Badu Park location along the picturesque Llano River. Llano has been blessed with some amazing artists over the past years - art that hangs on walls, art that can be used as furniture, art that can be displayed outside, art that is made from glass, and art that can be worn. Tania Quigley and her ghoulishly-dressed son, Wyatt, play Pumpkin Tic Tac Toe at the Lutie’s Kids Fall Festival at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday.
Several Llano citizens are concerned about a concrete plant that is proposed to be located just west of city limits. More than 25 people met last Thursday night at Inman’s Kitchen to discuss concerns about the proposed plant and to discuss what options may be available to stop it from locating there.

The ageless one, Ed Thompson of Horseshoe Bay, has recorded his second major bodybuilding title of the year. The 70-year-old qualified for the 2017 Nationals in his age bracket by winning the John Sherman Muscle Beach Classic in Galveston, October 15. His body resembles a 70-year-old about as much as a 45 RPM record resembles the technical equipment at Pixar Studios. “I’m extremely healthy,” Thompson told me, “and my& ...
The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians began the World Series, October 25, in Cleveland. That’s because the American League won the All-Star Game in July. Is that not the most ridiculous way of determining homefield advantage in the history of sports? Why not these choices: which team has the better record returning by Pullman from a road trip?
BURNET — We have a question for our educated readers/sports fans: When was the last time — in a rivalry game, no less — the visiting crowd had more people in the stands than the home side at a high school game? I had never seen it in 18-and-a-half years of covering sports here — until October 18. The Llano Jacket students and fans and the Traveling Yell Section out-numbered and out-screamed the Bulldogs in their gym on tha ...
When my dad would take me to games in the 1950s, and our team would fall behind, I’d look real sullen. Then it might rally and win, and dad would say, “Are you happy now?” So, Llano fans, who were looking for a bigger commitment to the running game, “Are you?” You should be. Hondo Owl eyes had the best view.

Dear Editor, Thank you Mr. Spence for your Letter to the Editor about the Historic Llano Red Top Jail and Mr. Frank Hamer, the Texas Ranger responsible for bringing down Bonnie and Clyde. We are still in the process of restoring the Llano Red Top Jail. We would love for Mr.
Dear Editor, The story going around Llano is that Ingram Readymix wants to build a concrete mixing plant in Llano on Angle Street just north from the motel. It seems they have already applied to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for a permit. Their application states that the site is 800 feet west on State Highway 29 from Angle Street on the north side of the highway. This plant would emit cement dust with a north wind right over our house.
Dear Editor, If you are opposed, as I am, to an application to put in a concrete plant on the land next to the Best Western Motel, Hwy 29 West, please write a letter to: Office of Chief Clerk TCEQ P.O. Box 130-87 Austin, Texas 78711-3087 State your opposition in the letter and request a hearing about this. Also let them know citizens in Llano were not notified but a notice was posted in the Kingsland Library. A concrete plant just outside the city limits of Llano would be a disaster, not only a ...
