Burn ban reinstated, but could be dropped if enough rain comes to county
The Llano County Commissioners declined to support a resolution in formal opposition to a rock and concrete crushing plant that would be located in Burnet County.
The measure failed by a 2-3 vote, with commissioners Jerry Don Moss, Linda Raschke and Mike Sandoval voting against it.
Asphalt, Inc., has submitted an air quality permit to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to put in a rock and concrete crushing plant near the intersection of Hwy.

A man who in March landed a plane with more than 200 pounds of marijuana in it at the Llano airport was sentenced last Friday in federal court in Austin.
Wayne Douglas Brunet, 65, was sentenced Friday to 37 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute between 50 and 100 kilograms of marijuana.

Llano Christian Academy, now in its seventh year and in their new building on Green Street, held its annual community banquet on Saturday night at the John L Kuykendall Event Center.
The annual affair began with entertainment by McKenzie Jones, who walked amongst the crowd singing, a very informal and comfortable way to perform that everyone took in.
Saturday fun in Castell for the first-ever Winefest at the Castell General Store. Those who attended had a chance to enjoy wine tastings, a classic car show, live music and more. When asked where they were from, it was literally everywhere.

FREDERICKSBURG—Nic George made it two consecutive fine races with a second-place finish in the Billies Cross Country Invitational. A good and appropriate showing—on the second day of autumn.

FREDERICKSBURG—The freshman and the senior from Llano ran side by side in the Billies Cross Country Invitational, and the freshman won that duel—by a second. Anna Casey, for the first time in a brief varsity career, was the top Lady Jacket in a two-mile race, September 23, while Meagan Riley was next, and both finished in the top nine in a field of 64.
The pair led Llano to fourth-place in the eight-team standings.
“I was pleased,” Casey told me.
The Llano volleyball team continues to play as hard as it can, but the scoreboard’s bigger number has eyes for someone else.
Leander Glenn and Burnet swept the Jackets, September 19 and 22, and they remain winless (0-4) in 19-4A play.
“Working with lots of different lineups,” head coach John Black sighed in frustration.
The Llano Sub-Varsity teams were finally able to host a home game after being on the road for the first part of the season. The Llano Freshman held on to win their game against Lago Vista to remain undefeated and win their third game of the season while the Llano JV suffered a heart-breaking loss to the Vikings to suffer their first defeat of the year.
Both teams now turn their attention to playing Burnet as they host the Bulldogs this Thursday in Llano at Jacket Stadium.
The Llano Jr. High Daubers traveled to Lago Vista this past Thursday evening to tangle with the Vikings in their second game of the year.
The night started with a combined 7th and 8th Grade B team game that the Lago Vista Vikings won in a hard fought game 22-6. There were no stats available to report for this game, although this should be the last time this year where the 7th and 8th grade B teams are combined for a game.

The Llano Youth Football and Cheer teams traveled to Lago Vista this past weekend to take on the Lago Vista Vikings.
Both teams competed well with the Llano JV notching their third victory of the season while the Llano Varsity fell just short of their first victory of the season.
The teams now turn their attention to hosting the Blanco Panthers in the friendly confines of Jacket Stadium this next Saturday.
Ervin “Buddy” Miller, 83, of Llano, Texas, passed away on Sept. 19, 2017.
Buddy was born in Pierce Junction on Sept. 12, 1934. He was married to Nita Miller on Nov. 19, 1969; they were married 47 years.
Buddy worked as a mechanic for 30 years until he turned his love for cooking into a full time business.
Ronald Edward Duckworth, 72, was born on March 5, 1945 in Levelland, to Houston Byron Duckworth and Ruth Bowman Duckworth. Ron peacefully went to be with the Lord on September 17th at home with his family by his side.
Ron spent his younger years in Sundown, moved back to Levelland, and then to Lubbock to finish his remaining years of school.
Clara Alice Spenkoch, 89, went on to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 in Llano. A private family graveside service for Clara was held at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, with Rocky Underwood and Heritage Funeral Home officiating, along with Mike Gortez and Richard Vandeventer.
Clara Alice (Jackson) Spenkoch was born in San Antonio on Feb.
