Kenzie Johnson was crowned homecoming queen and Damian Walker was crowned homecoming king prior to Friday’s football game against Austin Eastside.
As fall weather slowly and occasionally makes its way into Llano, Keep Llano Beautiful makes its debut Saturday with the Fall Sweep clean-up.
Those who are interested in helping beautify Llano at the clean-up should gather at 8 a.m. at the West Pavilion at Badu Park for trash bags and gloves and to get organized before heading out.
Mitch Dunn got the ride of his life before the Llano-Eastside football game Friday night. Head coach Matt Green told The Llano News the Jacket football team wanted to do this for the 15-year-old boy. So, with the crowd cheering, and the play being broadcast on radio, Mitch Dunn covered about half the gridiron and scored a touchdown, maybe a play that will inspire, and live with, all of us.
The Llano County Commissioners approved changes to leases on the school land in Tom Green County at Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
The land leased to Randy and Colby Mangum for cattle grazing has been subleased to hunters. The subleases were supposed to be approved by the commissioners prior to being signed, but they were not presented.
The changes includes an addendum which ends the subleases on March 30, 2018.
It started 50 years ago, in 1967, Lester Inman and Myrtle Oestreich opened the doors to Inman’s Kitchen and Bar-B-Que. It all began in a small red stucco building located at 1006 Berry Street with sawdust on the floor, and three options for meat -- beef brisket, ham and turkey sausage, a unique item created by Lester Inman.
Over the years they catered meals for many special occasions, Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic, Huntsville Prison rodeos, parties for Lyndon B Johnson, and many mo ...
The Llano High School classes of 1967 and 1972 celebrated homecoming weekend with class reunions.
It was a Game for the Ages—the Dark Ages. A high school team called the Jackets—wonderful boys and the pride of wonderful moms and dads—dominated a stat in the box score they might relinquish if they had to tuck in their shirts for 20 minutes.
They say you cannot win if you turn the ball over five times—Rockne said it, by golly, and so did Lombardi, I think, or he should have— and visiting Eastside from the metropolis of Austin, made that mistake—or five mistakes.

SALADO—The volleyball Jackets played an excellent first game here, October 3, but suffered a two-point loss. Heckling by some Eagles’ students was a bother in Game 2, and Llano was beaten badly, and Game 3 was in-between, and Salado claimed the sweep.
“First game we played really well,” said head coach John Black.
LAMPASAS—A superb pre-district meet, October 6, for Llano High’s cross country leaders. They will return to the Badger campus, Friday the 13th, for the 19-4A contest—the opening round of postseason in the world of cross country.
Anna Casey and Meagan Riley ran as a pair once more against Class 5As and 6As and finished 11th and 12th, separated by half a second.
Members of the Llano High School Hall of Fame's Class of 2017 were inducted on Friday night prior to the homecoming football game against Austin Eastside.
The Llano Sub-Varsity games consisted of only one game this past week as Austin Eastside did not have a Freshman or Junior Varsity team.
Because of this, the Llano JV suited up with the Varsity this week while the Llano Freshmen tangled with the Johnson City Eagles Junior Varsity. The game with Johnson City was a nail biter until the final play, but the Jackets came up just short as they lost 14-13 for their first loss of the season.
Both teams now turn their attention to District play as ...
The Llano Jr. High Daubers hosted the Johnson City Eagles with both the 7th Grade and 8th Grade playing combined A and B team games.
The 7th Grade Daubers jumped on the Eagles early and often and shutout the visitors by the score of 47-0. The Llano 8th Graders held the lead for much of the game, but just couldn’t hold off the Eagles in the end as they suffered a 22-12 defeat.
Both teams now start district play this week as they battle the Navarro Panthers.
The Llano Youth Football and Cheer teams went separate directions this past Saturday as the JV 3rd and 4th Graders headed to the Austin area to take on Cedar Park while the Varsity 5th and 6th Graders stayed in the Hill Country as they traveled to Mason to take on the Punchers.
Both teams now travel to Brady this Saturday to take on the Bulldogs in their final regular season game before the playoffs.

Dear Editor,
After reading Mr. (Carl) Russell’s letter last week I have come to the conclusion that arguing with Mr. Russell about the Confederacy, and it’s ill conceived idea is like playing chess with a pigeon; “the bird poops on the board, then struts all around before flying off the coop like it’s already won.”
And, if that wasn’t bad enough Mr.
