Joe Buck Simpson (L) and Russell Rabb are the 2018 “Jackets for Life,” one of Llano ISD’s most prestigious awards. Both graduated from Llano High and have made significant professional contributions to the school and community.
The Llano County Commissioners held a lengthy discussion with citizen Fred Ganske about frustration with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and its insistence on using arcane parameters in the latest flood plain for Llano County.
Ganske appealed to FEMA twice, but did not receive a positive response regarding his home in western Llano County being placed in the flood plain.
It started out as a fun night of dinner and theater inside the family life center at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church, but soon turned into chaos.
Unknown to those in attendance, there was a criminal in their midst that would soon be found and taken to trial. As dinner was winding down, guests were beginning to mingle with laughter in the air, when Llano County Constable Joe Simpson walked in with a warrant for the arrest of Jess Goodnuff, who was sitting in the back of the ro ...
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported sending over $557 million in sales tax remittances to Texas cities in May, up 8.39 percent over the amounts sent to cities in May 2017. Year to date sales tax allocations to cities are up 6.94 percent over 2017.

Two races. Two school records. Two terrific 200s. Two wins in each postseason event. Two State Championships. Two good. Two words: Anna Casey. The freshman has galloped into Llano High School history. She was simply better than some of us thought. Me of little faith.
“Best feeling ever,” Anna told reporters.
AUSTIN—I am so out of breath writing about Anna Casey’s Double Duels in the Sun in the State Track & Field Championships. I mean, the freshman girl can move, especially in the 800-and-1600-meter races.
She had been winning all year, so I asked her a week ago if strategy might change facing the best: “I still go out and run the way I want.”
It is so rare I am invited to join the Page One Club, but since sports is my beat, and Casey won a remarkable two gold medals, May 12, the guys ...
BURNET—Question: Can you believe some of the football boys went on a trip to the East Coast and MISSED a night of 7-on-7? Shocking.
“Nine varsity guys are not here,” according to head coach Matt Green. Some had other reasons besides travel for needing a doctor’s excuse next week.
The Jackets did fine in a pair of the all-passing, can’t-rush-the-quarterback, touch-not-tackle
games, against the Bulldogs.
AUSTIN—Ray Dixon is a winner. A gold medalist on and off the track. It was written once during the 2017 season: “The man never met a throw he liked.” But, he became an absolute gentleman—in the face of vanishing success—on high school athletics’ most demanding stage.
He was representing his school and town, his coaches and friends and family, at the State Track Championships, May 11-12, and, from somewhere—don’t ask me where—he rejected a sometimes foul mood and presence, ...

Dear Editor,
Recently my film crew and actors invaded Llano for several days and nights to produce our movie, Date From Hell, and you would not believe the reception we got from this town! From businesses to local citizens we were welcomed with open arms, despite additional nighttime traffic, bloodcurdling (on camera) screams, and a handful of out-of town filmmaker types. They were all more than accommodating and made getting this movie made a whole lot easier than it might have been.
