The Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, September 23. Jerry Land told the Commissioners that Llano Recycling Opportunities will stop accepting recycling materials on October 15 and will be closed by October 31. The main reason is that the amount paid to places like our recycling center has dropped drastically.

Tuesday, September 17, 2019, approximately 4:24 pm. FBI agents Scully and Mulder, stationed at Grenwelge Park, prevented a pack of Llano teenagers attempting to storm Area 51. Though aliens had been seen in the Area, the teens were urged to look elsewhere. They were sent over the bridge, through a time warp, to the Museum, then back over the bridge, stopping at The Llano News, and naruto running around the courthouse before turning themselves in to officials at the Red Top Jail, where they ...

10th Annual Historic Cemetery Tour
With day after day of near and over 100-degree weather, it’s hard to envision that fall is just around the corner. Texas doesn’t seem to ease into fall, like most areas. One day it’s 100 degrees, the next day a cold front comes through and drops the temps down for a few days, and, just like that, fall is here.
On Wednesday, August 7, Judge Beatrice (Bebe) Rocha, Llano County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, appeared before the State Commission on Judicial Conduct and gave testimony, alleging that she used her position in office to advance her private interests. The judge identified herself as a local justice of the peace during a personal phone call in mid-January.

On Thursday, September 12, Commissioner Peter Jones opened the Llano County Pct. 1 Townhall meeting by commenting on the year to date with significant effort by the county directed to recovery from the October 2018 flood. Total cost to the county to recover from the flood is about $2 million. The Federal Disaster Declaration does make Llano County eligible for reimbursement from FEMA.
Riding on a motorcycle offers views that are impossible to capture when you are inside an enclosed vehicle. There’s something about there not being a thin glass window between you and the road that changes the way you see the world. Llano County offers some of the most beautiful views in the Texas Hill Country and on the weekend of September 14, those views were shared with the Ladies in Leather all-female motorcycle group.
Two Llano High School students have gone up a couple of steps on the academic ladder. Seniors Emma Richardson and Quentin Franklin have earned the designation of Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. This translates to finishing among the top 50,000 students—out of an enrollment of competitors that totaled 1.5 million!

“I wanted to show that I have initiative, and that I could take charge,” is Julie Keyes’ answer to why she wanted to be a leader in this year’s Llano High School Yellow Jacket Band. On how to succeed, she responded, “It takes pride, hard work, and occasional sweat and tears.” Although only a sophomore, Keyes is in charge of an “outgoing and hard-working” group of young, inexperienced musicians. So far, the best part of her leadership role has been “experiencing how fun it ...
Somewhere, former Llano Jr. High Coach James Saucier is smiling! It was a great day to be a Dauber, as both Llano Jr. High teams hosted the Brady Bulldogs and left Jacket Stadium with convincing victories over the Bulldogs on Thursday, September 12. It was the opening games of the season for the Daubers and both teams played combined A & B team games.
LAGO VISTA—“It’s déjà vu all over again,” were, supposedly, the immortal words of Hall of Fame catcher, Yogi Berra. They weren’t at all funny seconds after Case Kuykendall took the opening handoff here on September 20. Case went down out of bounds with a broken collarbone. He has a sling on his arm, “taking Advil,” and I don’t know how long he’s out.
The anticipation is always at a high number before you play a rival. It is a sweet victory if that occurs. It did not go that way for the volleyball Jackets, September 13, but they made a something-to-be-proud-of rally before losing to Burnet, three games to two. Game 4 “It was pretty impressive,” said Head Coach Dee Heiner, “since we started down 5-0.” The Bulldogs owned a 2-1 lead entering this set.
It was another perfect week for the Llano High School sub-varsity teams as both Freshman teams and the JV team recorded victories at Jacket Stadium. The Llano Freshman Orange team started the evening off by thumping Burnet to move its season record to 3-1. The Llano Freshman Black team and the Llano JV team each followed up with hard fought victories over Lago Vista.
The UCLA-Washington State game, which kicks off our college review, tells us the football, like the baseball, must also be juiced, and, if you’re going to leave a game early, DON’T CRY ABOUT IT! The Cougars, under the guidance of Mike “I never met 100 points I didn’t like” Leach, led the 0-3 Bruins, 49-17 in the third quarter.

Jane Faris passed away this week after a long life. She was known to all of us as Nene and we loved her dearly. She was feisty, fiercely independent, self supporting and sometimes adventurous. She drove a dump truck, made saltwater taffy and rode the Seadoo. Nene loved to cook, work in her flowerbeds, and feed the animals. Jane Faris entered her heavenly home and was reunited with her loved ones on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at the age of 93.
The hot weather did not deter members and guests who gathered at Save the World Brewery on Monday, Sep. 9, for the Highland Lakes Democratic Women’s Fall Fundraiser and Membership Social. The crowd of 50 welcomed several new members and enjoyed a great selection of beers and snacks, all while supporting both the Brewery’s mission and HLDW’s own.
On September 28, during Castell's Winefest, Randy Leifeste will be signing copies of “Go, Cockaroo”, the novel that was inspired by his upbringing and life in the Texas Hill Country. St. Louis-based writer, Cody Spotanski, traveled to Castell for the first time three years ago to fly fish the Llano River. On that trip, he met Mr.
