Grace Episcopal to hold live nativity during Christmas Stroll
For the seventh year in a row, strollers will have the opportunity to witness the Christmas miracle live during the annual Llano Christmas Stroll. The annual event showcases many of Llano’s churches decorated for the holidays and takes place on Wednesday, Dec. 7, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the gazebo at the county courthouse.
Christmas parade goes on despite initial challenges
The first calls started coming into the Llano Visitor Center on Wednesday. “Is the Christmas Parade going to be canceled?” “Will we get to have the Christmas Parade this year with 100 percent chance of rain?” They continued until 10 minutes before the parade started. From the first call, there were no plans to cancel, even after two float participants called to cancel their application.
The Llano City Council denied a request for rezoning in the Northern Business District at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting. The council unanimously denied a request for a move from Northern Business District to a Single Family-3 zoning. The request came from Terry Fontenot and Kelly Draper, who own a business with a residence in it at 109 West Tarrant.

Black Friday is the day known in retail as the day to start showing a profit, the best shopping day of the year, and a day that is commonly left behind to the shops and retail stores in Llano. After all, Llano doesn’t have the big box stores. Other than a few major chain stores, it is left to the mom and pop stores to survive the largest shopping day of the year, to make “Black Friday” the best it can be.
The “Crawfish Surge” exercise aimed to test capabilities of local emergency officials went well, the Llano County Commissioners were told at Monday’s meeting. Ron Anderson, assistant emergency management coordinator for the county, said that while there were some areas for improvement, the overall scope of the mid-November exercise went well. An Austin-area company officially purchased Llano Ready Mix on Monday, and the company’s chief executive officer said they want to be part of the community. Lauren Concrete of Round Rock purchased Llano Ready Mix, which is located just north of town on Hwy. 16, and plans to build a new facility there if approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Torres seeks surgery for ‘Canine Good Citizen’ Ashley
Ashley Torres of Llano is a good citizen and has the certificate to prove it. Ashley is a 5-year old, 92-pound silver pit bull and a favorite visitor among residents of local senior citizen homes. Unfortunately, Ashley’s service to the community may soon come to an end due to a needed surgery. “She just loved being around people,” said Barbara Torres, who trained Ashley and her Doberman, Ty, to be service dogs.
Llano ISD earned the top rating in the state’s financial integrity rating system. LISD Chief Financial Officer Jill Minshew presented the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report at Monday’s night’s school board meeting. The district rated 98 out of 100, receiving an “A” or Superior rating. “They changed their scoring this year, and will again next year, making it harder,” Minshew said.
