Kerrville, Texas (May 24, 2018) - On Saturday, May 12 Schreiner University officially conducted the spring commencement ceremony. The May 2018 Commencement Ceremony was Schreiner University’s 36th baccalaureate graduation since conferring its first four-year degrees in 1984. In total, 193 completed their degree requirements and 175 students walked the stage to receive their degree in front of 1,650 friends and family.

“Boss” Lion Jim Heidelberg convened the weekly meeting of the Mason Lions Club on May 22. Thirty-five persons were present, including six guests and two caged diamondback rattlesnakes affectionately known as “Death” and “Taxes”.
Lion Marty Bentson presented his co-worker and guest, Bryan Page. Lion Trey Carrington welcomed his guest, Don Gray, owner of The Fish Camp on the Llano River at Hedwigs Hill.
Congratulations to the Seniors that crossed the stage Friday night and are now getting ready for the next adventures in their lives. Here in Mason the summer heat has finally arrived and school is out so the kids are free and likely underfoot. Luckily we managed to find enough young adults that wanted to be lifeguards, and now that they too are out of school we are preparing the City swimming pool for summer fun.
Hill Country Memorial (HCM) is pleased to announce it has received a $1.5 million dollar grant from The Cailloux Foundation for the support of the expansion and renovation of the HCM Obstetrics (OB) Department. Furthermore, HCM announces that the Women’s Pavilion will be renamed the Kathleen C. Cailloux Birthing Center in honor of the support and generosity of The Cailloux Foundation.

Enrollment for the 2018 Summer Program is underway for Kingdom Kids, River of Life’s Mom’s Day Out program. Kingdom Kids mission is to provide a loving, Christ-centered environment where children are nurtured and mother’s needs are met. Summer activities for children ages 3 months to 5th grade include age appropriate Bible stories, music time, crafts, baking, and recreation time.
This summer we will be offering (2) three week sessions for ages 3 months – 5th grade.
On May 13th, the Boys headed to the State Golf Tournament in Austin. Sophomores; Aaron Reardon, Kyle Montoya, seniors; Matt Finn, Stan Stultz and Emanuel Martinez all took part in a marvelous journey. The air was full of excitement for we were among the top 12 teams in the state.

Samuel Shelton, a visiting artist from Meridian, Texas will demonstrate master painting techniques Saturday morning June 2, beginning at 10:00, in the Stribling Room, Mason Public Library.

This was another blessed week. It rained. My gauge had almost half an inch. The wind was blowing so hard, I don’t think much went in the gauge. Several people at church reported more rain, but they also had hail. Grandkids picked up lots of sticks, and Scott came over to mow grass.
Kendall Cruz Ramirez peacefully passed away in her parents’ arms shortly before her fifth month of life.
She came into this world December 29,2017, at 14 ounces and was 10 inches long and surprisingly cried during her first moments of life; doctors and nurses knew she was feisty and were constantly reminding everyone of her strong spirit and keep-fighting attitude.
Jack Edmiston, age 90, of Voca, Texas, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in Brady. Jack was born September 2, 1927, in Brady to John Errett “Eric” Edmiston and Lillis Ella (Eubank) Edmiston. He married Minnetta Hendrix on January 16, 1947, in Brady.
He was a rancher and received numerous 1st place awards, plaques and trophies from the Mason Auction Company and Llano Livestock Auction Company.

Ever since I put the length limit back in place on the Letters to the Editor, I've had to endure writer after writer accusing me of being unfair in how I decide who gets published and who does not. Of course, the complaints never actually address whether or not I agree with the author, or with their viewpoint on a topic.

This simple little recipe will result in your having a dozen of the most moist, delicious blueberry muffins you’ve ever tried. The biggest problem is trying to keep from eating them all in one sitting!

Our summer reading programs begin next Monday, June 4th, and we’re so excited! They are for children who will be in pre-K to Grade 5 next school year. Read with a Dog will be at 11:00 a.m. each Monday, and Read to Swim is from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursday.

The couple had not been overly religious, but when their son was about ten years old they decided they should start taking him to church. Their first Sunday morning back, he sat quietly through the sermon in unfamiliar territory, fidgeting only when absolutely necessary.
They decided to attend evening worship also, and the boy resigned himself to another long, boring ride in the pew.
