Last week the Emergency Management Team met again and with the new confirmed information that just came out, the statement of local Covid-19 cases was updated and has since been further updated. I am aware that there was concern within the community and on Facebook regarding the timeliness of these reports, but although the rumor mill has provided a good bit of conjecture on this issue, the local government group is expected to report verifiable and factual information and that sometimes limi ...

A Prayer for the People
Greetings, We have a lot on our plate this day, this week, and the weeks to come. We need to be in prayer for the families that mourn from tragic loss, for our community, students, teachers, school staff, and for those who are sick. I find a comforting piece of scripture from Psalm 121; 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

On the Matter of ‘Making It’…
Wedged in my mind’s recesses are these eight simple words: “If you can make it there, go back.” They’re easy enough to understand, but application is a whole ‘nuther thing. These words captioned a cartoon a while back. It was drawn to warn folks relocating to New York City…. ***** Though probably not intended, the cartoon has a serious undertone that may apply to folks from anywhere--cities, towns or rural. It suggests that grass probably isn’t any greener on their sid ...
The Pros and Cons of Brush Control
I met recently with a new Mason County ranch owner to discuss his management efforts and his interest in increasing wildlife populations and biodiversity on his property. As we rode around his ranch, he showed me various plants that he had been working to control, and asked me what I thought about them.
Where did the summer go? I spent most of it at home. When I was teaching, I always complained that the summer went by too fast. I think this summer went by faster. I am happy that I don’t have to go back to school this week. Retirement is good. There will be no Class Meeting at the Art United Methodist Church today, August 12.
I was deeply saddened by the news from West Texas. The State of Texas lost some great men and conservationists. I never knew your nephew but always heard wonderful things about him. I did know Dr. Bob and used him around Kerrville. I did have a once in a lifetime experience that was the fruits of their labors.
The 2020 Presidential election will be upon us in less than three months. If you are planning to vote for the Democrats please ask yourself some questions. Do I seriously want to live under a Communist regime? Do I seriously want to guarantee that my children and grandchildren will live under a Communist regime? Do I think that we will be important enough to the Party to survive the initial purge? Socialism/Communism is a Satanically inspired government and economic system.
Everyone wants Life to go back to prepandemic normal. Everyone wants the economy to perk up, adults to go back to work and kids go back to school; BUT the COVID virus in America is out-of-control (we’re #1). Normal has changed forever, the sooner we all accept that, the sooner we can get things under control and get the economy rolling again. WE HAVE TO S L O W DOWN FIRST!
Open letter to Senator Cruz and Senator Cornyn Sirs, I have a dog named Fred who becomes dead weight when he doesn’t want to do something. On May 15 the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6800, the follow-up coronavirus relief bill. But the Senate could not craft a bill in response. Like my dog, you became dead weight. Negotiations were kicked down the road to the White House where they died. Finally, President Trump rode to the rescue with his executive orders. How ironic to ...

Simple Homemade Bread
This nifty little recipe will provide you with 2 really nice loaves of bread and requires very little “hands on” time. Whenever we have some of the “thundering herd” coming into town to visit us, I always make up at least two batches of this bread. Ingredients: 2 cups warm water 2/3 cup of honey 1 ¾ tablespoons active dry yeast 1 ½ teaspoons salt 6 cups bread flour Process: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together warm water and honey until honey is dissolved. Add ye ...

Mason is a very friendly dude located right here in Mason Texas! We would guess he is full American Staffordshire Terrier but we are not sure. We are sure he is very sweet and handsome, just look at that face! He is not a huge dog, weighing about 40 pounds, and is about 3 years old.
