At a special meeting March 4, Mason’s school board voted on a hiring timeline that would have a new superintendent start in August of this year.
This option calls for the position to be posted “very soon,” said Dr. Casey Callahan. Callahan is the Executive Director of Educational Service Center (ESC) Region 15 of San Angelo.
It might seem less like Mason County and more like Los Angeles- where gas prices recently reached a record level- as national and statewide trends trickle down to local folks.
L.A. County is the most populous county in the nation; as of March 6, it also boasted skyrocketing gas prices ranging from $5.51 to more than $7 in some locations, according to media reports.
It’s not quite that extreme locally, but people are feeling a bit of a pinch.

The Mason tennis team competed in the Regional Team Tennis Tournament on March 4-5 in Mason at the Helen Tallent Tennis Center.
Friday morning, Mason took on San Saba High School and won 19-0, dropping only 14 total games throughout the dual match. Mason then took on Blanco High School in the second round of the round-robin style tournament and again won 19-0, this time dropping only one set throughout the dual match.

Thomas Wright Titus (12/19/48-2/11/22) left us too soon at the age of 73 to complications following surgery in Boulder, Colorado.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Jane, daughter Rebecca Smith, son Travis Titus, son-in-law Jeromy Smith, daughter-in-law Victoria Pane, and his four grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Layla Smith, Stella Titus, and Austin Titus.
Glenda Laura Lea Eaton, 87, of Bulverde, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from a life, long-lived.
Glenda was born July 4, 1934, to Boyce and Betty Roberts Dixon in Viola, Arkansas. She was an only child. She spent a lot of time going to the movies and wrestling matches, where she liked to collect autographs.
Glenda married her first husband at 18 ½ and had three children.
Ruben Castillo Avalos, age 70, of Mason, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
Ruben is survived by his brothers, Antonio Avalos of Mason, Patricio Avalos of Mason, and Jose (Linda) Avalos of Brady, Texas; his sisters, Irene Menchaca of Mason, and Josie (Bobby) Hernandez of Brady; a sister-in-law, Joyce Avalos of Rockdale; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
