Farmers and ranchers in Mason County who were forced to sell livestock because of drought have been granted more time to replace livestock and defer tax on any gains from the forced sales, said Shannon Worrell Mason County Farm Bureau president. The one-year extension of the replacement period applies to sales of draft animals, breeding livestock or dairy animals. "The deferment for purchasing replacement animals is normally four years,"
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Llano County, will sponsor a CEU Conference on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at St. James Lutheran Church – Schorlemmer Hall in Llano. This program will be for individuals who possess a valid private applicators license, a commercial applicators license, or a non-commercial applicators license, and need continuing education units (CEUs) to help with fulfilling their re-certification requirements.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Llano County, will be having a Private Pesticide Applicator Training Class on Monday, December 7, 2015. Class will begin with registration at 8:00 am with the training beginning at 8:15 am. Cost of the training if you pick up your materials is $75. If info is mailed to you, cost will be $85.
Lingering injuries and a run of stomach illnesses hamstrung the Punchers last Friday as they met up with the Refugio Bobcats in San Antonio. The Punchers were never able to get the traction they needed, and the strong Refugio team hammered Mason at every turn. Refugio scored early in the first quarter, then shortly before the end of the period and closed out the first quarter 14-0. In the second quarter, the Bobcats scored three times.

Riata held their November meeting in the home of Tess Geistweidt with Carolyn Toeppich as co-hostess. Laura Tallent, program chairman, introduced special guest Dr. Monte Horne who is the new physician at the Mason Clinic. Before moving to Mason in August he and his family worked in a Christian hospital in Papua, New Guinea with the Franklin Graham Organization.
The Seaquist House Foundation Board invites the community to "Christmas at the Seaquist House" this coming Saturday, November 28th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The open house will follow Mason's annual "Light up the Town." You can drive to the house or follow the luminaries down Broad Street to the house.
Today is my 56th birthday. There's nothing remarkable about the 56th, other than the fact that you made it another year. But, I'm thankful for having reached this point, nonetheless. Next year, as happens about once every eight years, my birthday will land on Thanksgiving.
