Angie Nell Smith, 78, of Parker, Texas passed away on August 16, 2019. Angie was born February 2, 1941, in Luling, Texas to Dennis and Beatrice Ellison. She grew up in Blanco, Texas and attended Blanco High School. On September 9, 1961, Angie married Dorsey Lee Smith.
One of her favorite stories to tell was how she, a Baptist, married Dorsey Lee, of the Church of Christ, in a Methodist church with a service performed by a Lutheran minister. They were married 54 years before his passing in 2016.
She graduated from Southwest Texas University in San Marcos, Texas with a degree in Education majoring in History and minoring in English in August of 1973. Angie worked as a special education teacher in Blanco for over 18 years and was beloved by her students and those she worked with. She served on the Blanco School Board for over 10 years and was president from 1986-89.
Angie was active in many organizations and in her community where she lived most of her life. She was a long-standing member of both Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the Blanco Women’s Club where she was honored recently as one of the longest standing members of over 60 years. She was a member of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce and president for 1979-80 term. Angie took great pleasure in volunteering for several roles within the Blanco Baptist Church, of which she was the longest active member, since 1953. She started playing the piano her senior year of high school and played organ right up until 2017, acted as Treasurer for 40 years, and served as Sunday School Director and Vacation Bible School Director.
Angie was a voracious reader, enjoyed home renovation shows on TV, and especially enjoyed spending time at the Corpus Christi beach. In 2018, she moved to Parker to live with her daughter, Tamara, and her family. This gave her the opportunity to spend even more time with her grandson, Andrew, who adored her. She still maintained a home in Blanco and visited her friends there frequently.
Angie was preceded in death by her parents Dennis and Beatrice Ellison, her husband Dorsey Lee Smith, and her son Jeff Smith. She is survived by her daughter and husband Tamara and John Pearson, and her grandson Andrew Pearson, as well as her sister and husband Val Jean and Donald Wagner. Other survivors include sister-in-law Yalene Hobbs, brother-in-law and wife Mike and Kay Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial service for Angie Smith will be at First Baptist Church Blanco on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. followed by a dessert social.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church – Senior Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 280, Blanco, TX 78606.
