Tim E. Gilles

Tim E. Gilles, age 71 of San Antonio, passed away Oct. 19, 2019, in San Antonio.

He was born Dec. 24, 1947, in Longview, WA, to George and Frances Gilles.

Tim is survived by his loving wife, Dawn; sons, Tim Farstad, Sean (Veronica) Gilles and Adam (Kylee) Gilles; daughters, Kristin (Creighton) Rea, Kelly (Greg) Fijolek, Desi (Anthony) Hodgin and Dani Anderson; brother, Tom Gilles; sister, Adele Kruger; grandchildren, Gabby, Sean, Braxton “Little Bud,” Owen, Hannah, Lauren, Caleb, Jixon, Jagger and Holtynn; parents-in-law, David and Janice Hall; brother-in-law, Jay Johnson; and brother- and sister-in-law, David and Teresa Hall.

Tim attended Washington State University on an athletic scholarship, where he played football and baseball for the Cougars. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants baseball organization and played a short time in their minor league farm system before deciding that a brighter future for him lay in a banking career.

Tim worked in banking in Oregon, Arizona and Washington before coming to Texas, where he served banks in South Texas. In January 2008, he joined Hondo National Bank as its president and CEO, where he served energetically and effectively until his death.

Active in his church and his community, Tim contributed his time and support to numerous worthy causes. He was a longtime, dedicated Rotarian in Hondo.

Tim died a proud Texan.

Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, followed by the Memorial Mass at 2 p.m., both at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hondo. A reception will follow at St. John’s parish Hall. Memorials may be made to Rotary’s “Share the Joy,” a program providing Christmas for local families in need.
