Blanco Good Samaritan Center sets 2 donation drop-off events

“My closets are filling with donations. Why isn’t Good Sam open yet?” This is a call or question heard daily at Blanco Good Samaritan Center.

The answer is straightforward. The Board of Blanco Good Samaritan Center monitors both COVID-19 statistics in Texas and the opinions of its volunteers about safely returning to work.

At its last monthly review on June 17, the center’s board determined that once again neither indicator supported a safe opening of the center for business as usual for the foreseeable future.

However, recognizing the kindness and patience of residents who have been holding thrift store donations in closets, barns, or vehicles, Blanco Good Samaritan will hold two thrift store donation drop-off events. The first is Thursday, June 25, from 5-7 p.m. The second is Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to noon. Both events will be held at the Blanco High School parking lot for easier maneuverability. Please do not drop thrift store items at the center.

Items must be packed in boxes with lids or flaps that can be tucked to create a flat top surface for stacking. They cannot be accepted otherwise because of storage limitations. For those who may not have boxes at hand, a supply of them will be provided.

Good Samaritan will not take thrift store donations on a regular basis until its incredible powerhouse of volunteer talent returns. Good Sam is grateful to donors for checking in about whether items can be accepted.

Although the thrift store has been closed, Good Sam’s work has continued without interruption. This is a result of the generosity of the people of Blanco County. Recognizing that thrift store sales dollars are negligible, the community has come to the rescue. You have helped fund Good Sam food pantry curbside operations. You have provided funds and food donations for the Panther Pack program. You are helping people in Blanco County whose employment and finances have been affected by the pandemic. Good Sam will continue to serve residents in all the usual ways for as long as funds hold out.

At its essence, Blanco Good Samaritan is you, the people of this community, assisting others in the community who need help. You are doing an awesome job. Thank you!
