According to Blanco County Commissioner Precinct 4, Paul Granberg, TxDot has let the contract for the reconstruction of the 165 bridge and the contract has been awarded to Capital Excavation. Contracts are in the process of being signed and the scheduled start time is November 2015. The projected finish time will be at least six months taking into consideration factors such as weather and the holiday schedule.

Your Blanco Volunteer Fire Department received very good news from the Texas A&M Forest Service last week. The department was awarded a $200,000 grant, under the rural volunteer fire department assistance program, to purchase a new Brush Truck, which is used primarily fight brush/wildland fires. In fact, the brush trucks are our most used fire fighting apparatus.
Time is running out to make your reservations for the 25th Anniversary Silver Spurs Gala to be held on the grounds of the Old Blanco County Courthouse, Blanco, TX, Saturday, October 17th.
This year's annual fundraising Gala will begin at 6:00 p.m. with wine, beer and silent auction bidding to go along with hors d'oeuvres served up by Sullivan Street Caterers.
Blanco State Park is the pride and joy of our City. It, like the City and County, suffered considerable damage during the Memorial Day Flood. The Park Staff, aided by other state workers and dozens of local volunteers, have worked hard to get the Park back into operation. The City of Blanco has provided significant assistance in this effort by allowing the Park to dump more than 400 truckloads of flood debris at the City's waste water plant where, in time, it will be properly disposed of.
The Texas Hill Country, known as "Flash Flood Alley", is a semi-arid region known for extended periods of drought interrupted by significant flooding events. The Memorial Day flood along the Blanco River was one of the most devastating on record. Citizens and communities along the river were left with heartbreaking losses of life and property, and also many questions about how this happened and how can we reduce future impacts from floods.

It is that time of year again! November 11, 2015 is Veterans day. In honor of all veterans we will be having the Veterans Parade on Saturday November 7, 2015 at 10:00 am in beautiful downtown Blanco, Texas.
Let's all come out and support and honor the veterans of Blanco County and surrounding counties.
After a week off to prepare for their district opener versus the Stockdale Brahmas, the Blanco Panthers won a hard fought homecoming game defeating Stockdale 33 – 7. The victory improves Blanco's record to 6 and 0 on the year, but more importantly, 1 and 0 in district play.
The Panthers got off to a slow start as both teams were knotted at 0 following the first quarter.
The Panther junior varsity football team started District 14-3A play at the home of the Stockdale Brahmas with a 28-12 win.
The Panthers started the game by kicking off to the Brahmas who were quickly met by Mario Sanchez and William Hourigan. The first two plays were stopped at the line by Chance Horton, Tristan Lopez, and Hourigan, with Brandon Phipps picking up a fumble on second down.
The Lady Panther volleyball team rested on Tuesday with an open date and then got a big win on Friday, October 9 over the Georgetown Gateway Gators, 3-2, with set scores 20-25, 25-17, 14-25, 28-26, and 15-11. Malyn Valliant fired in 23 kills, with Gracie Edmondson and Skylar Burns smashing 3 blocks each.
The Panther 8th grade football team outscored the Stockdale Brahmas 28-6 on Thursday, October 8. Alex Andrade gave the Panthers great field position covering the short Stockdale kickoff on the Blanco 44. Gunnar Granberg and Aaron Daniels combined on carries to move the ball to the Stockdale 41. Bowie Crofts ran for a 26 yard gain to the 15 yard line.
The Blanco 7th grade football team defeated the Stockdale Brahmas 24-8 on Thursday, October 8. Ty Adkinson covered the short kickoff on the Blanco 43 giving the Panthers excellent field position. Ozzy Tackett and Kaileb Webster alternated carrying the ball downfield. Tackett got the call for the final 4 yard run and the Blanco touchdown.
The Blanco Panther marching band performed superbly on Saturday, October 10 at the Region 12 University Interscholastic League Marching Contest at East Central High School in San Antonio. The band received Division 1 ratings from all three judges who described the show as, "a very energetic and musical performance".
Bands advance to Area and State only every other year.

Anna Josephine Phipps, 96 of Katy, Texas and formerly of Blanco, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015. Viewing will be from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Friday, October 18th, with services being held on Saturday, October 19, 2015 at Crofts – Crow Funeral Chapel in Blanco, Texas. Burial will follow in Blanco Cemetery in Blanco Texas under the direction of Crofts – Crow Funeral Home, Blanco, Texas.
Our text is Ephesians 6:10-18. Vs. 11 says, "Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles (tricks) of the devil." The Christian has a real enemy, and is instructed by the Apostle Paul to put on God's full armor. To effectively defeat our enemy in spiritual battle, we must know our enemy, how he operates, and what power he does or does not have.
