A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held Monday, May 9 to officially reopen the RM 165 Bridge over the Blanco River. Texas Department of Transportation joined officials from Blanco County as they celebrated the completion of the bridge. The $1.3 million project replaced the RM 165 bridge after being destroyed in the 2015 Memorial Day floods.

At its regular meeting on May 2, members of Blanco’s Planning and Zoning Commission once again heard complaints from neighbors concerned about a proposed high-density housing development on Trainer Street. Resident Curtis Knutson said that the proposed 40-home development will produce serious drainage issues, as the slope of the property drains water down in to the property of neighbors.

The City of Blanco held a City Council, School Board, and a bond election that concluded when the polls closed at 7:00 Saturday, May 7. Five candidates, Martha Gosnell, Tony Vela, Matt Lewis, Martin Sauceda, and Amit Patel, were running for three city council seats. There were 39 early voters in the City Elections and 181 votes on general election day.

A Mother and her boyfriend are accused of injuring her three children , including her one-year-old who died Thursday morning. Blanco Police responded to a call Tuesday, May 3 on the 500 block of Jones street around 6pm. The call from the couple stated the 1-year-old child was unresponsive. According to Cheif Mike Ritchey the first officer on the scene had suspicions about the bruising on the baby’s face. “Between bruising, swelling, and machines that the EMTs had on it I could not even see ...

In the recent race for Blanco City Council, the difference between three candidates was a total of four votes. That vote difference between them meant being elected to the Blanco City Council and being almost elected. So, the “what if” stories immediately began to circulate. “What if” the child of one candidate had not driven all the way to Blanco from San Antonio solely to cast a ballot for their candidate; then the results would have changed.
