With little fanfare and no public comment, the Blanco Independent School District Board of Education set its tax rate and passed its budget during a special meeting late last month.
The levy and budget basically were the same as advertised and discussed during the board’s regular August meeting.

During a special meeting at the end of August, the Blanco City Council voted on a proposal to increase the local property tax levy from 25.83 cents, a rate which has remained unchanged since 2006, to 32.18 cents per every $100 of assessed valuation.
The increase amounts to about 24 ½ percent.
Prior to the vote, which was not unanimous, council members discussed and voted on a number of less contentious items.
Martha Gosnell was absent.
The city’s tax rate was the final item of business.
The Blanco Chamber of Commerce is at a crossroads of sorts regarding the future of Yett Memorial Park.
The chamber serves as the manager of the nearly 30-acre facility after the land was deeded to the city by the Yett family more than 20 years ago.
“This is kind of an SOS call,” chamber Executive Director Libbey Aly told the Blanco County News.
