Blanco County Commissioners met for a budget workshop on Wednesday, July 5. Elected officials and other county funded entities were represented to present their concerns and budgetary requests.
The workshop’s purpose was to discuss budget concerns and answer any questions Commissioners may have had before formulating the final draft of the 2017 budget.

Members of Blanco’s Planning and Zoning Commission met on July 3 with two members absent—David Smith and Jon Brieger. The first agenda item was a request by Bobby McClung to change zoning at 206 4th Street from its general Residential designation to Mixed Use. As McClung explained, a potential buyer for the 1.8 acre-tract had expressed a desire to use the site for a commercial venture such as a restaurant, gift shop, or country store.
On June 24 a Confederate battle flag flew briefly over the Blanco Cemetery as veterans of the War Between the States were honored.
The impressive ceremony was organized by Hood’s Texas Brigade Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #153 of San Antonio. Camp Commander Joe Owen said that “honoring all veterans who honorably served our country is a pleasure and it is what we do.”

Delia Amaro, owner of Cuts “N” Curls, is no stranger to hard work. Married at 21 she had three children, Polo who is 35, Suzie, 31 and Danny, 28. When Danny was 4 weeks old, she got a divorce from their father.

The Rotary Club of Fair Oaks Ranch at Blanco, Texas, held their organizational meeting July 6, 2017. Many members of the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks were in attendance.
The satellite application for the Blanco club has been completed and is being turned in. Jerry Gass agreed to be the Chairman of the Blanco Rotary satellite.

Blanco Visitors Bureau To Receive Review To Increase Tourism
On July 25th and 26th the City of Blanco, Texas Visitors bureau will host representatives from the Governors’ Texas Community Tourism Assessment Committee. Every year the Governors’ office for Economic development and tourism selects rural communities to be interviewed and reviewed regarding their tourism efforts, to assist those rural communities with tourism, planning and development.

When a rural church invited me to be the speaker for a four day conference it was to celebrate the tenth anniversary of its founding. The church had begun with three families holding services in a rented hall and five years later had grown enough to purchase a small church building, a parsonage and some acreage on a picturesque country corner.
