Blanco County Commissioners met on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, for their regular meeting and a workshop to discuss rules and regulations for future property subdivisions.
With Blanco County’s population on the rise, Judge Bray called a workshop to begin discussing rules and regulations to prepare for subdivisions in the county. Road maintenance and water availability were focus points for the workshop.

Police vests to be funded
Gov. Greg Abbott announced that Texas would provide police departments $23 million in grant funding for rifle-resistant vests. During the 85th Legislative Session, Abbott signed Senate Bill 12, authored by Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, and Rep. Phil King, R-Weatherford.
The funding will provide law enforcement officers from 453 different jurisdictions around the state with some 32,842 rifle-resistant vests designed to protect against high-caliber rounds.

A dedicated student and motivated learner from an early age, Blanco High School graduate Jacie Handberry is currently a junior enrolled at Texas State University. She is working hard to complete her dream of being a college professor in the field of Holocaust and Genocide studies after completing her bachelor’s degree.
The Blanco Lady Panthers finished the first round of 3A District 25 undefeated 5-0 with a 45-30 win against the Lago Vista Lady Vikings on Tuesday, Jan 9, 2018. The Panthers ended the first quarter with a 16-2 lead. The halftime score was 23-20. In the second half the Blanco squad scored 22, while holding the Vikings to only 10 points.
Skylar Wiseman was the statistical team leader with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.
The Panthers remain undefeated, 4-0, in District 25-2A with a 72-40 win over the Lago Vista Vikings on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and a 66-55 victory over the Georgetown Gateway Gators on Friday, Jan. 12.
Against Lago Vista, Eddie Calzoncit led the team firing in 19 points and snagging 12 rebounds and three steals.
On Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, the 8th Grade A Team took out the Ingram Warriors by a score of 54-19. Zach Wisdom helped the Panthers win with the high shooting stat of 16 points and Langston Hunter drained 14 points.
The 7th Grade A Team crushed the Warriors 31-15. Devin Newsome put 13 points up on the board, Christian Manriquez made six points, and Preston Guinn also put six points in the book.
The 7th Grade B Team defeated the Ingram Warriors 28-10.

The Blanco FFA Chapter has been very busy this winter competing at our local stock shows. The Chapter Show took place at the Blanco High School Ag Shop on Dec. 15-16, 2017. The show was a great success with more than 46 students participating and 89 animal projects being shown.
Nina Jo Page Artzt passed away peacefully on the morning of Jan. 13, 2018. She was born in Granger, Texas on Feb. 7, 1931, to David Wayman Page and Lilly Opal Farr Page.
Nina graduated from Blanco High School in Blanco, Texas and was a cheerleader, which aided in her leadership qualities.
It seems the evil spirit of depression casts it’s spidery web out everywhere, and we are all subject to walk thru it and get tangled up in it. God’s Word is so very comforting, and can give us what we need, if we will take time to sink into it.
On Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 a Hawaii emergency management employee sent out a false alarm that put all of the islanders in panic.
The emergency alert read, “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”

I remember doing ‘bomb drills’ in Elementary School when we lived on Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.
