Partners Assisting Literacy Success (PALS) is an initiative for kindergarten through second-grade students needing assistance with their reading skills at Blanco Elementary School. Troops to border draws mixed reactions Gov. Greg Abbott on April 4 welcomed the announcement by Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen that the federal government would deploy some 4,000 National Guard personnel to the U.S.-Mexico border to assist in stemming illegal immigration. U.S. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said using the National Guard in a supportive role “is a commonsense way to temporarily assist law enforcement along the border.
The Board of Education meeting of Blanco Independence School District Monday, April 9, 2018 was packed full of business and information. BES Principal Jowie Walker kicked things off with recognitions. Fifth grade student council officers were brought forward for their efforts to raise money to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with a fundraiser called Pennies for Patients.
Protect Blanco County Children
Child abuse is one of the greatest yet most preventable tragedies of our time. In the U.S. each year approximately 900,000 children are victims of child abuse or neglect. Each year 1,500 children die at the hand of their abuser. That’s an average of four children each day. The Blanco County Child Protection and Family Advocacy Board is one way this community provides support to children and families in need.
The Bamberger Foundation announced a challenge grant of $10,000 to the Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society’s (OBCCPS) Capital Campaign. For each additional dollar raised (other than from grants and foundations), the Foundation will match each dollar, up to a maximum of $10,000. “This generous initiative from The Bamberger Foundation is a great boost to our capital campaign,” Jim Harris, OBCCPS president said.
