Our hot summer weather makes it necessary to plant in the proper sun or shade. For instance, impatiens or begonias must be planted in shady flower beds or a hanging basket in the shade. Most nursery workers will help you to choose the correct plant for shade or sun. Dead head (remove) dried seed heads on annuals, perennials, and roses to promote new blooms.
I have written about our native Hill Country trees and shrubs in previous columns. Today I want to write about some other woody plants that are native to the Hill Country, vines. Somehow, when one mentions vines, a jungle comes to mind, not our semi-arid region. Maybe it is just too many Tarzan movies when we were kids.
Most people look forward to summer as a time for relaxation and vacation. Kids and teens get a well-deserved break from their rigorous school schedules and the regular ‘rules’ such as bedtimes and curfews are not strictly enforced. Church attendance often drops significantly during summer months. Families may enjoy time spent at the beach, barbeques, camping and road trips to visit relatives. Summertime freedom may also mean less parental supervision and can also be risky for some tee ...

When you hit the road, you will enjoy getting away from your regular tasks, but there’s one part of your life that should never take a break – your investments. To keep your investments working consistently and efficiently for you, consider these suggestions: • Match the right investment with the right “j ...

Across its vast landscape, Texas has lakes of all sizes, many of which are admired for the special value they bring to the local community, be it recreation, tourism, or natural beauty. With only one exception, Texas’ major lakes were man-made, created not for fishing, boating, and picnicking but to address serious problems within their region.

Eph 6:2-4 “Honor thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Today we will skip ahead in our study of Ephesians, since it is applicable to Father’s Day.
All of us are in a different place in our spiritual journey. There are those running from God, those seeking God, and those longing to serve God. Once you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior you begin a process called sanctification, where you start to conform your life and will to that of Christ.
Staying single and devoting oneself to the church was considered taking the high road to heaven. Those who did were conquering lust and therefore spiritually superior to those who caved to the flesh, fell in love, married and raised a family. That began changing about 500 years ago when Christian reformers put family on a pedestal with game-changing teachings that sexuality and spirituality aren’t incompatible and that making a marriage work would do more to get you into heaven than staying ...
