Pink Tractor Farms, just north of Blanco on U.S. Hwy. 281, is not easily missed by its trademark pink tractor near the entrance to its produce stand. Ashley Schnelle, with the Schnelle family, bought the business three years ago. Together they have brought treasures of locally grown and Texas-based foods and natural products to Blanco County.
The pink tractor has a unique story.
Tucked away, just off the road behind a cedar log fence, sits what appears to be a country residence shaded by a huge sycamore tree. This is the home for Black Board Bar B Q. Jo Irizarry and Jake Gandolfo, chef owners, have created a unique menu that has something for everyone.

Blanco County Commissioners held a special meeting Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
Commissioners approved the minutes of prior Commissioners’ Court meetings following a motion from Commissioner Tommy Weir and a second from Commissioner Paul Granberg. Commissioner Chris Liesmann gave a motion to approve line item transfers as presented and Granberg seconded; the motion carried.
The 41st annual Wilhelm and Elisa De Cloudt Schaeferkoeter Family Reunion, hosted by the Monroe Schaeferkoeter family, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 11 a.m. The covered dish meal will begin around 12:30 p.m.
Each family is asked to bring a meat, vegetable, and / or dessert to share.
Lupe Valdez, Democratic nominee for Texas Governor, will be at the Old County Courthouse in Blanco for a Town Hall and fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 2.

During its July 16 board meeting, Pedernales Electric Cooperative announced the cooperative was ranked No. 10 in the nation for overall customer satisfaction and No. 7 among U.S. electric cooperatives according to the J.D. Power 2018 Electric Utility Residential Customer Satisfaction Study.

When I was in college I found a verse in the Bible that I really liked, Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” I think I liked it because I thought it meant that God was going to use me to sharpen other people. In time I discovered that it more accurately described God’s usage of family, friends and neighbors to sharpen me and shape my character.
It was time to plan for graduation. I was in my first year as principal at Socorro High School in El Paso and I felt the need to recognize certain outstanding students; students who might not be in the top ten academically but who stood out as being special in other ways.
