A second death attributed to COVID-19 in Blanco County has been announced. A woman in her 70s, who lived in the Johnson City zip code, died of the disease, the Blanco County Office of Emergency Management announced late last week. “She was exposed to COVID-19 and subsequently developed symptoms,” BCOEM reported.
Kinder Morgan presented a donation of $162,000 to the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday last week. The department plans to use the donation for transportation and other operational costs. Kinder Morgan has also made donations to ESD1, ESD2, and education foundations at both Blanco ISD and Johnson City ISD.
Blanco ISD will begin school a week later than planned. The board of trustees voted last Tuesday night to start school Aug. 24. The move allows the school extra time to prepare for the 2020-21 school year amid coronavirus concerns. In addition to pushing back the start of school by a week, 10 minutes was added to each school day to provide additional flexibility. There were 62 Panthers out for the first day of football practice Monday, Aug. 3. Also that day, a total of 35 Blanco volleyball players out who ran a mile at the track and continued with drills in the gym on the first day of athletic training allowed by the UIL since March 13, when the COVID-19 outbreak shut down all school-related activities.
Blanco High football and volleyball practice got underway Monday, while cheerleaders gathered to paint signs in anticipation of the upcoming fall sports seasons.
