Life has changed for local real estate agents, as it has for everyone during the coronavirus crisis, but they are feeling positive about Blanco’s housing market despite a strained inventory. Candy Cargill, owner of Hill County Real Estate, has seen hard times during her 34 years as an agent. “All hard times in real estate are only as hard as you make them,” she said.
A special meeting of the Blanco Commissioners Court on Aug. 17 was called to order at 9 a.m. on Monday by County Judge Brett Bray. All four commissioners were present. After the pledge of allegiance, Kenneth Welch took the floor for public comments. He began by reading the definition of corruption and said, ”I believe persons in power in Blanco County government may be corrupt.

The Blanco City Council meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. by Mayor Pro Tem Martin Sauceda with Council members: Keith McClellan (arrived at 6:07 p.m.), Mike Smith, Matt Lewis, and Deda Divine present. New Blanco Police Chief Scott Rubin was sworn into office by city secretary Laurie Cassidy. Mayor Pro Tem Sauceda encouraged citizens to fill out the 2020 Census if they have not done so already.
The Blanco County Emergency Services District 2 board voted to refinance the loan for its station at the Aug. 11 meeting. The board voted unanimously to refinance with Government Capital at an interest rate of 2.749 percent. The savings over the previous loan is expected to be about $455,000, said board member Lynne McKirdy.
The Blanco Panther Band practiced marching techniques Thursday, Aug. 13. Freshmen started marching practice Aug. 3, with the full band joining them Aug. 4. Band members practiced correct posture, instrument carriage and step length.
University Interscholastic League guidelines put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic will allow only 50 percent capacity at Blanco High School football games this fall, which has forced the school district to change its ticketing procedures for the upcoming season. Only 600 tickets will be sold for the home side of Panther Stadium at each game in 2020, reports BISD Superintendent Clay Rosenbaum.
The Blanco Lady Panther varsity squad is playing a tough pre-district schedule this season against larger schools and some state-ranked teams. With COVID-19 lingering in Texas, the UIL eliminated tournament play this year in order to reduce crowd size in gyms. Normally, the Panthers attend three tournaments to gear up for district.
Hilary Huser, loving brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 6, 2020 with family at his side. Hilary was born Sept. 6, 1934 in D’Hanis to Fred Huser and Johanna Postert Huser, who preceded him in death. He married Mary Turner on Sept. 10, 1955 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D’Hanis and they lived together almost 65 years before Hilary’s death.
