Coronavirus. COVID-19. Quarantine. Pandemic. While those words and a few others like them dominated the year that was 2020, it thankfully wasn’t a blip on the radar when the year kicked off last Jan. 1. The Blanco County Commissioners Court special meeting was called to order by Blanco County Judge Brett Bray Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Blanco County Courthouse. Shortly before noon on Monday, an accident on Hwy. 281 North heading into Johnson City slowed traffic into one single lane at Hwy. 281 and Stanton Road. An RV rolled over and left the right side of the road strewn with debris. JCVFD, BCEMS, JCPD and the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office were among the agencies who provided assistance at the scene.
The Blanco Panthers and Lady Panthers made awesome memories and highlights in 2020, in spite of the challenge of living through a pandemic. Good bye 2020, good riddance, and take COVID-19 with you. It is amazing that many of the Blanco High School sports were able to complete a season this year.
Margareta Emma Maenius (nee Meier) of Albert passed away on Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, at 94 years of age. She was born Dec. 26, 1925 in Luckenbach, to Henry and Emma Brodbeck Meier. Margareta married Hugo Maenius on Oct. 17, 1945 in Trinity Lutheran Church. Along with her husband and parents, Margareta was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters: Edwin, Arthur, Albert and Alfred Meier, Viola Gremmer, Elsa Rode and Lydia Fishel. Phillip Dale Hartmann, age 65 of San Antonio and Blanco, passed away Dec. 23, 2020. Phillip was born in San Antonio on Aug. 9, 1955 to Francis and Gertrude Hartmann. Phil attended Churchill High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Texas State University. Phil had a long career and retired from USAA, and was the long-standing president of Hermann Sons Lodge at Twin Sisters.
On Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, Bobbie Lois Abbott, loving wife, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at the age of 84. Bobbie was born June 2, 1936, in Refugio, to Bob and Eleanor Jenkins. She was a graduate of Refugio High School, and married Russell Sparks Abbott on April 19, 1957.
