After swearing Cristol Corpus and Randy Rutherford into their school board positions, the Johnson City School Board began reviewing the upcoming budget at their regular meeting on Monday, June 12. They also got an update from Athletic Director Chris Cloninger on summer activities. Budget Workshop: Chapter 41 Newly hired Superintendent, Richard Kolek and Assistant Superintendent Erin Fasel have been engineering the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The Blanco County Appraisal District Board approved the Appraisal office’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. They also enacted a no cash policy to be phased into this year’s tax collection. 2017 Budget The board opened a public hearing in which no one from the public expressed questions or concerns with the proposed budget.
Congratulations to Leroy & Shirley Weirich! Leroy and Shirley Weirich were married June 2, 1967 and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on June 3 with a party given in their honor by their children, Rusty and Kim Weirich, Lori Frederick and Tracy Tolbert. The party was at the home of Rusty and Kim.

It also bothered Senator Bernie Sanders when he grilled Russell Vought, President Donald Trump’s nominee for deputy director of the White House Office of Management and Budget last week.

One day while I was substituting in a high school Spanish class a young lady came into the classroom sporting a very short, very tight skirt. Not being familiar with the school’s dress code, I decided the best policy on my part would be to ignore the situation—but her apparent discomfort made that difficult. While she was standing, she was tugging at the hem of her skirt as if to lengthen it.
Fifteen boxes of snacks, Texas sauces and other treats went into the mail this week to soldiers from Ft Hood stationed overseas. The boxes were packed by the children at the First United Methodist Church, who added hand-made thank-you cards and bags of trail mix, also bearing thank-you messages. “They see pictures of fighting on television,” said Ronnie Birck, the church’s education director, “so they know there’s something going on somewhere, even if they don’t fully understand it.
Hill Country residents interested in taking non-credit graduate level art classes will have the opportunity to do so through Texas Tech University Fredericksburg this summer. The Texas Tech University School of Art is partnering with TTU Fredericksburg to offer three community art courses at Hill Country University Center. For the first time ever, community members can attend graduate-level classes.
