Blanco County voters crowded into the Hoppe Room of the Blanco County Annex to meet the candidates for the 2018 republican primary election. Population growth and county resources were the main topics on voters’ and commissioners’ minds at the forum. Speakers at the forum were, in order of appearance, incumbent Blanco County Judge, Brett Bray Precinct 2 Commissioner Candidates, Lance Odiorne, Roy W.
Texas Game Wardens are seeking information to aid in locating the person or persons responsible for illegally shooting the deer in the photo right. The head was removed and the body left to waste. The location of the incident was Cypress Mill Road in northeast Blanco County and is believed to have occurred the second week of January. Operation Game Thief, the Texas’ wildlife Crime-stoppers program, is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information regarding the incident.
The County’s South Annex 2,700 sq. ft. project is nearing completion and will open to the public in February. The annex is located at 402 Blanco Ave. The Annex will house the Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Bob Riley and staff. In addition, there will be part-time offices for the County Clerk and Tax Assessor Collector as well as space for state and local law enforcement, the County Attorney and Adult Community Supervision. A Blanco County jury sentenced Timothy Wade Foth to multiple terms of life in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Blanco County woman in 2016. The criminal case, tried in the 424th District Court last week, ended in a conviction on five of six counts, based on an investigation into kidnapping, sexual assault and robbery by the Blanco County Sheriff’s department that began 17 months ago. The Varsity Eagles continued a district winning streak last week with a win last Tuesday against the Ingram Warriors and the Florence Buffaloes on Friday. Eagles vs. Warriors Johnson City entertained a home crowd with three wins against the Ingram Warriors last Tuesday. Starting the second round of district play, the JV B-Team won 44 to 30, JV A-Team won 46-38, and the Varsity won 45 to 37. The Warriors took a three-point lead to end the first quarter, 10-13.
The Lady Eagles split the week with a district win against the Lady Warriors from Ingram High School and a loss on the road against the Lady Buffs from Florence High School. Like most Americans, I have watched with a troubled mind and a heavy heart the seemingly unending flow of allegations, insinuations, and accusations involving our elected representatives and the practices and processes of our U.S. Congress. Now the people of the Texas 21st Congressional District have an opportunity to select a representative of integrity, honesty, and capable leadership.

Cora Byars, 69, of Johnson City, Texas entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2018 surrounded by family. Cora was a long time resident of Johnson City, Texas. She volunteered her cooking and baking expertise for the local Fire Department and other local clubs assisting in their fundraising. Cora was an avid animal lover and never let any cats, birds, deer, or dogs go by her residence without trying to feed and take care of them.

In response to Kevin Tully’s letter of 22 January, I found statements that I both agreed with and found troubling. I agree that individuals can be ignorant of facts through dysfunctional upbringing and over-reliance on media/news/internet/social media. There are no perfect cultural groups (Caucasian, African-American, Latino, Asian, etc.) - all have biases, hence no perfect individuals. I also agree that neighborhoods and community are where ideas/actions begin - the grass roots.
This week are discussing legal issues all of us will encounter at some time. In this article we will touch the surface of a DNR. This stands for Do Not Resuscitate. There are two kinds of DNRs out of Hospital DNR, the other is in the Hospital. Some people get a DNR at a hospital but unfortunately it is only accepted at that hospital.
It’s hard to believe that the cell phone will turn 35 years old this year. The first cell phone was released on March 6, 1983. It cost $3995 and lasted for 30 minutes of talk time. It was about a foot long. The original cell phone was called a “car phone”.
Wellness seems to be a common household name these days. With that being said, do we really know what wellness means? Do we know how it pertains to us personally? Is it just another universal “trendy” word? I looked up three different definitions of “wellness” from “dictionary.com". Definition One: The state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.
The first meeting of 2018 for the Johnson City Woman’s Civic Club was held at the Johnson City Library, Jan 22 focusing on ‘Getting Fit for the New Year’. Nicole Tower, co-owner of Core Fitness, presented the program with an overview of the fitness classes, workout stations, and equipment available at Core Fitness.
