Tuesday was Texas Independence Day, and Saturday will mark the anniversary of the fall of the Alamo.
Texas is a land with a wealth of history dating back as far prehistoric times. Once great dinosaurs roamed the land. At times it was covered with shallow seas. While taking a walk through the Hill Country, one can find sea shell fossils laying in abundance on the caliche ground.
In true Johnson City fashion, the community would like to come together and assist its neighbors with storm debris clean-up. The City of Johnson City is spearheading an organized event to bring these volunteers to those who need the help. This Saturday, March 6, will be the first official Winter Storm clean-up.
Volunteers are asked to meet at City Hall at 9 a.m.

Getting the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is just as important as having the first dose, according to James Partin, M.D., Internal Medicine, Chief Medical Officer for Hill Country Memorial. That’s because the immunity nearly doubles after receiving both doses.
“With the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, you probably have at best 50% immunity from the first dose by the second week after getting it,” Partin explained.

Judge Brett Bray called a special meeting of the Blanco County Commissioners Court to order at 9 a.m. on Feb. 23. Mayor Rhonda Stell issued a proclamation on February 12th, 2021 that designated March 1, 2021, as COVID-19 Victims and Survivors Memorial Day in the City of Johnson City, Texas. The Mayor and City Council urge all citizens to remember those who have lost their lives and honor those who are forever marked by COVID-19 and those who continue to suffer from the impact of this virus.
The Johnson City Library staff is excited to announce that the library has made a new addition to the outdoor area. Behind the library along the walking path, you will now find a new Story Walk, an activity that can be enjoyed by everyone, old or young.
The Story Walk was put in place to promote reading in a non-traditional setting while also interacting with nature.
Johnson City already had more hungry families because of coronavirus-related job losses, and then came the Great Blizzard of 2021, further depleting food supplies. The Johnson City Lions Club helped keep one pantry filled — JC’s Christian Food Pantry, which serves those in need all over north Blanco County. After a 10-1 stumble against Blanco in their season opener, the Varsity Eagle Baseball team rattled off four wins in two days to win the Championship in the Charlotte Invitational Tournament last week. Head Coach Steven Shipley praised the solid performance of the Eagle pitching staff as a highlight of the week with a 6-0 shut-out against Dilley and a 15-0 no-hit shutout of Brooks Academy on Friday followed by a Saturday morning 10-0 no-hit shutout against LaPryor.
The 2020-2021 Varsity Eagles Basketball Team ended their season in the Bi-District Round of the UIL State Playoffs. The Eagles fell to Sabinal 96-49 at Kerrville - Tivy High School. The Yellowjackets defeated San Saba in the Area Round and faced Schulenburg in the Regional Quarterfinals on Tuesday (late score).

Cade Thomas Goodwin, 34, of Brownwood, passed away Friday February 19, 2021. A Celebration of Cade’s life service will be held at 10 AM, March 6, 2021 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel, 303 Early Blvd., Early, Texas.
Cade was born May 5, 1986 at Brownwood Regional Hospital in Brownwood, Texas to Jesse and Nina Goodwin.
The emergency room doors banged open and a father, closely followed by his sixteen-year-old son, ran through cradling the unconscious form of his eight-year-old boy. The ER personnel responded quickly and whisked the boy away into the bowels of the big hospital leaving the two to pace back and forth in the waiting area.
The boys had left Mom at home to go on a weekend outing with their Dad to do some camping and fishing and to just spend some quality time together in the great out-of-doors.
