Tuesday, June 24 employees of Johnson City ISD rode a bus over to the Blanco County Courthouse to thank Justice of the Peace, Randy Brodbeck, for 22 years of service on the school board. Brodbeck has seen and enabled many changes for Johnson City schools. In the years since being sworn in on May 15, 1995 there has been construction on new classrooms, the high school, middle school, football stadium, central offices, and renovations to the softball stadium.
The Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 16th annual fish fry fundraiser and dance on Saturday, May 14, at the Blanco County Fairgrounds in Johnson City. The event is usually held the first weekend in May, but was moved due to Mother’s Day. The festivities begin at 5 p.m.
Ayden Hubenak would not be denied a trip to Austin to compete at the State Track and Field Meet, Ayden cleared 12'9'' and won the Region IV Pole Vault. Ayden will compete against 8 other vaulters from across the state Saturday May 14th in Austin at the University of Texas' Mike Meyers Track Complex.
Pedernales Electric Cooperative members now have a new way to make the place they love to live even better: the PEC Power of Change program. Those who opt in will have their electric bills rounded up to the nearest dollar, and the combined funds will be awarded throughout the year to eligible area non-profit organizations and qualified members in need. In Marble Falls today, PEC Board President James Oakley became the first enrollee.
For the 9th year in a row, the JC FFA Wildlife team placed in the top ten at the State Wildlife CDE (Career Development Event). The 2016 contest was held at the Richards Ranch near Jacksboro on April 26. Lane Evers, Grey Grote, Darren Sultemeier, and Colby Turner placed 3rd out of the 49 teams which had qualified from the 10 FFA Areas in Texas.
David Adickes is an internationally known artist and sculptor who was born in Huntsville,Texas. He created the Sam Houston sculpture on Highway 45 between Houston and Dallas. His bronze of George H.W. Bush sits in the Houston Intercontinental Airport. In 1991 Adickes created the 67-foot-tall statue of Sam Houston at Huntsville made up of steel and concrete and situated in a copse of pines just south of town to celebrate the bicentennial of Houston’s birth.
The Blanco County Office of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service are sponsoring a SKYWARN Weather Spotter Training session on March 22, 2016, from 7 to 9 PM at the Blanco EMS Station, 607 Chandler St., Blanco. The training is free and open to anyone interested, and no registration is required. The effects of severe weather are felt every year by many Americans.
Congratulations to the Blanco County 4-H Shooting Education shooters who participated in the Texas State BB Gun Championship that was held in New Caney, Texas on March 12. 15 shooters and coaches represented Blanco County including: Back Row Left to Right: Donnie Sprouse (Coach), Shannon Sultemeier (Coach), Chris Welch (Coach), Dakota Metcalf, Reid Sultemeier, Degan Roy, Cody Sprouse, Keen Linson, Adrianna Mayes and Heath Eckenrode.
The National Weather Service will present Skywarn Weather Spotter Training on March 22nd from 7 – 9 pm at Blanco EMS at 607 Chandler Street. The training is free to the public. ***** Michala Zbytovsky celebrated her 18th birthday with a surprise party at Pecan Street on Wednesday, March 9th. She was welcomed by family, friends, & classmates.
