In alignment with the overall mission of local nonprofit, Highland Lakes Creative Arts made a substantial donation to the Marble Falls High School art department to help supplement art resources within the school.

Pinot grigio and ale might have been a factor in the homicide of a local Army veteran and former Blanco firefighter last month, according to police in an arrest affidavit that was obtained by the Blanco County News.
James “Jim” Mayer Harris Jr., 63, a Blanco attorney, allegedly shot and killed his 25-year-old stepson, Donald Boumans, after an altercation on Aug.
JCISD Trustees held a Regular Board meeting on Sept. 13, 2021, and President Matt McKennis called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. A quorum was established, and there were no public comments.

City Council members held a Special meeting on September 14th. Mayor Stell called the Open Session portion of the meeting to order at 6:00 pm, and introduced public commenter Rebecca Weisenbaugh.
Weisenbaugh asked the Council to take immediate action on a complaint filed against the City on Aug. 30 regarding the deteriorating, unsanitary, and hazardous conditions for the residents and property located at 502 North Avenue N.
The Blanco County unemployment rate continues to drop as it once again leads the nine-county Rural Capital Area.
Blanco County’s unemployment rate for August was 3.3 percent, according to figures released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission. The county’s rate has fallen 0.8 percent in the last two months. The unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in June and 3.7 percent in July.
The nine-county region’s August unemployment rate was 3.9 percent, falling from 4.3 percent in July.
The Board of Emergency Services Commissioners of North Blanco County Emergency Services District No. 1 (NBCEMS) held a Public Hearing on September 13th, 2021 for the purpose of adopting the 2021-2022 property tax rate.
NBCEMS President David O’Bannon called the Public Hearing to order at 12:00 pm, and a quorum was established with the following Commissioners present: Vice President Brandt Raeburn, Secretary-Treasurer Kay Odiorne; and Commissioners Kirk McElhinney and A.J.
The Thrall Tigers delivered a wake-up call to the Johnson City Eagles racking up 46 points and delivering the visiting JC squad their first loss of the 2021 season on Friday night.

The 3-0 Center Point Lady Pirates arrived in Johnson City Friday afternoon intent on upsetting the favored 3-0 Lady Eagles to take the lead in the first round in District 29-2A competition. The host team showed great sportsmanship, but little hospitality in making short work of their guests in the three set victory (25-14, 25-11, 25-12).
The victory for JC came on the heels of a three set road win at Medina on Tuesday night (25-8, 25-6, 25-11).
The JC Junior Varsity continued their winning ways with a 28-18 victory over the Thrall Tigers at Eagle Field Thursday night. Thrall held a 12-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Eagles scored twenty unanswered points over the next two quarters and held on for the win.
Special teams were a highlight with a 62-yard punt return by Henry Martinez for the score and a kick-off return of 59-yards by Devin Smith that tacked on six more points.
The LBJMS White team defeated the Harper Lady Longhorns in a three-set match Monday night at Harper (25-18, 15-25, 26-24).
Avery Haley led the Lady Eagles with sixteen service points. Emaleigh Davis had a kill and a block. Marti Stevenson was a defensive stand-out as the Lady Eagles worked through a new line-up and rotation.
David Dean DuFner, 76, passed away Sept. 1, 2021. He was born Nov. 11, 1945 to Hal and Ruth Dufner.
After high school and marrying, he worked on Diamon X Ranch for M. C. Winters drove truck for Winter Construction Co, worked for R. B. Felps Trailer Co. and drove a truck for many people hauling grain, cattle, grass, pipe, boats, and just about everything else, and ran his own landscape business.
Later in life he took care of people’s animals when they were out of town or busy.
