Dumping continues to hamper operations at Llano Recycling Opportunities. The non-profit agency, which helps employ adults with developmental disabilities while also dealing with recycling efforts, has to continually deal with the problem, said Connie Hashaw. A couch and mattress were dumped at LRO this week. When someone leaves something at the center that cannot be recycled, the LRO must pay for it to be put in the landfill.
Everyone is invited to celebrate the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America starting at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, at Robinson Park in Llano. The event will start just before noon with a presentation of the colors by the Chariots of the Hills motorcycle club, followed by Mckenzie Jones singing the national anthem.
I have enjoyed the privilege of serving you as your County Judge, and as we begin the 2017 Llano County budget process, I want to have a discussion with you, the taxpayers, on the outlook for 2017. My core belief is that government which is limited, efficient, and transparent is best.
The Llano County Commissioners talked about a potential burn ban and more at a less than 40-minute meeting held Monday morning. The commissioners discussed reinstating the county-wide burn ban, but ultimately voted unanimously to table the item. Precinct 1 Commissioner Peter Jones said some concerns were mentioned to him about the use of fireworks in unincorporated areas, since there has not been much rain this month.
It was a good day at the Llano Farmer’s Market on Saturday, with lots of produce with more vendors and more customers, which was a great combination.
There will not be an independent candidate on the ballot for sheriff in Llano County in the November general election. Cindy Ware, county elections administrator, said the deadline for an independent candidate to file with enough signatures has passed, and no one has filed. The deadline to file was June 23 with valid signatures from 351 registered voters who did not vote in the Republican or Democratic party primaries or runoff elections. Ware said she spoke with Robert Smith, who declared his ...

Last Wednesday afternoon below the dam just east of Badu Park, tragedy hit a family fishing the waters of the Llano River. Victoria resident Brian Holmberg, 52, and his daughter, Alexis, were visiting family in Llano and enjoying a day on the river. At some point, Alexis ended up in the water below the dam.
Fighting various kinds of fires is something Ervin Light has been doing most of his life. Light became a firefighter when he left school early to enter the military during the Vietnam War, following in the footsteps of his father, who served on the Llano Volunteer Fire Department. Later in life, he became a pastor, and now describes his work as trying to keep people out of the eternal fire. Light was born in Llano, just above the location Stonewalls once occupied at the corner of Main Street (R ...

Ben Walling throws the ball over the middle to Kyle Cooper. Walling indicated his timing with receivers and learning how they run routes improved with 7-on-7.
MARBLE FALLS — Next stop: 11-on-11. The little-brother version concluded June 27, and a solid performance is my overall assessment of six nights of 7-on-7. “Lot of positives, so we’ll take it,” said head coach Craig Slaughter, who wasn’t always pleased, but “All’s well that ends well,” and plenty ended well at Mustang Stadium. “This one went a whole lot better,” declared Ben Walling, who threw every pass during three outings in Burnet and three more in Marble. The ...
Mark Nunez soars towards the hoop at the Lago Vista gymnasium. The Jackets also went 3-0 at Priddy, June 25.
LAGO VISTA — The Llano High Varsity played with its usual summer gusto, June 23, but dropped a pair of games on the third Thursday night of this one-month, offseason season. Standing in the journalistic hallway of the discussion are the JV youngsters, who went 2-0 with authoritative victories. Gracefully bowing to their elders, they have granted the junior-senior group the opening act. “Lots of energy, emotionally charged,” said head coach Aaron Nuckles, who is getting a good look at ...
The camp in the Llano High gymnasium wasn’t your usual basketball get-together, June 20-22, and the counselors were an impressive pair with admirable credentials. Earnie Williams, the director, played at Texas for Jody Conradt and Gail Goestenkors, 2005-2010, and has spent several years in Europe on the pro basketball circuit. Shannon McCallum was at North Carolina-Charlotte, 2007-2011, where the coach was Karen Aston — currently the Longhorns’ head coach. “The goal is to see where ...
Rev. George Sievers has begun his ministry in Llano at the Llano United Pentecostal Church. Sievers, right, is joined by his wife, Beth, center, and daughter, Bethany.
I literally started laughing as soon as I saw the notice on Facebook from the Llano County emergency management office. Granted, I don’t think most warnings from that office elicit laughter, but memories growing up made this one quite comical to me. After all, they never met Sadie, the amazing firework chasing dog. Most animals are scared of fireworks, and should be kept inside or in a safe place to make sure they don’t go missing when they become scared of the loud noises or strange lights ...
