Two weeks ago I asked you, the taxpayers of Llano County for feedback on some key issues related to the 2017 budget. Many of you have responded back to me and other county officials, and I thank you. Please continue to communicate with us during this important budget process.
In this article, I want to delve a little deeper into, one, the background for the decisions I make as I prepare the proposed county budget, and, two, the deliberation and compromise that the county commissioners and other ...

As Llano County Sheriff I read the article last week concerning the FY 17 County budget from a different perspective.
Yes we have the 21st lowest tax rate of 254 counties in the state of Texas and one of the highest cost of livings in the state for counties our size.

Even when Leonel Manzano was running in a friendly fundraiser, which he is doing here, the grit and determination always accompanied him on his travels around the track.
If it’s over, he went out in style, which is no surprise.
Leonel Manzano is one of the finest persons I’ve ever known. Forget about the nine state championships he won at Marble Falls High School, or his nine All-American seasons at Texas, and his silver medal in the 1500 meters in the 2012 Olympics in London.
Have you noticed a story or two where some folks are criticizing Kevin Durant for leaving Oklahoma City and going to Golden State?
I’m patting myself on the back — since no one else does — and I’m chirping, “I told you so.” Remember six years ago when Clevelanders (Clevelandians?) were so mad at LeBron for using an ESPN interview to say he was leaving for Miami, and Cavalier fans used that as their reason for being upset?
I said at the time, “Oh, ...

A tough one-day seminar on the hardwood, July 8, in San Saba. Callie Johnson of Llano has the ball and is receiving a forearm to the body. Looks like a foul to me.
BLANCO — It was somewhere between Painting by the Number and Monet — maybe closer to the former — but the brush strokes of the offense remained between the lines, July 6, in an 18-9, Llano baseball loss to the Panthers.
“I like the way we hit the ball,” said head coach Stephen Campbell, who was a (UIL mandated) spectator while Casey Landers and Taylor Sorensen ran the operation in the dugout and in the coaches’ boxes. “Getting {at} bats is ...
Connie Roehrman, 84, passed away July 3, 2016 in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Connie had a huge heart that in the end simply started winding down. She also had dementia for several years that robbed her of much of her memory. What a thrill it must have been for her to see her beloved again after 16 years and a wonderful surprise to find her eldest son Michael Fielding Roehrman waiting for her there as well!
Connie was born in West Lafayette, Indiana, to William and Margaret Coyner.
This time, it counts.
Each year as the Major League Baseball All-Star game gears up, we hear that utter nonsensical phrase left to us as part of former commissioner Bud Selig’s legacy. Each time I hear it, I’d like to chunk something in ole Bud’s direction as I walk away muttering.
As you read these words, this year’s mid-summer classic is over, and some league now has home field advantage for the sport’s crowning moment, the World Series.
Dear Editor,
I have been a citizen of Llano County for nearly 40 years. I have resided at the same location in the county. I have had occasion to ask assistance of the sheriff’s (office) a few times and been taken care of in a timely manner.
We need our deputies in the outlying county.
