Hightower has been hunting in Llano County for 69 years
Dr. Gene Hightower has hunted in Llano for so long that he feels it is coming home. Hightower, 80, has hunted in Llano County for 69 years. “When I come over the hill leading into Llano, I feel as though I am coming home. The fantastic memories that my family has accumulated over the last 69 years can only be equaled by the number of friends that we have made,” said Hightower, who has been coming to Llano to hunt since November 1947 when he was 11 years old and where he shot his first ...

Why the “11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month”? It marks the time World War I officially came to an end. Just after 5 a.m. on Nov. 11, 1918. It was at that time that Germany and the Allies signed an armistice – a formal agreement to stop fighting. The armistice, sometimes known as the Armistice of Compiègne after the location it was signed (around 60 miles north east of Paris), marked victory for the Allies.

The current superintendent, Casey Callahan, is moving to head the Region 15 Education Service Center in San Angelo. The trustees conferred with the firm of Edu ...
I think the two-point conversion in college and pro football is a sucker punch. Oh, I know it’s needed in desperate times but terribly overrated and over-used. You’ve read this before? Would you like more on the most recent presidential election? I didn’t think so. The main advice here to coaches is: forget the dad-gum two until, oh, say, the middle of the third quarter.
Katie McDonough goes up for two. Llano was at Harper, November 15, and will play in the San Saba tournament this weekend.
The Llano Special Olympians traveled to Highland Lanes and Dart Bowling Alley in Austin to participate in the Area 13 Bowling Competition, November 4-5. Llano was well represented with eight students in every age group. The athletes trained for 8 weeks for this competition which involved over 1,500 athletes. This year the Yellow Jacket team walked away with one bronze medal for Jaycee Davidson, one silver medal for Mitch Dunn, and an amazing six ...
ROUND ROCK — No medals, but two fine showings by Llano High representatives in the ultimate contest in Texas: the State Championships. Nic George ran his best time ever, and it arrived in the State Cross Country Meet, while Meredith Zyetz — also a sophomore — beat about a third of the 150 entrants, November 12. Take it one step further: 110,000, the approximate number of students in Class 4A in Texas. Nic covered three miles ...
SAN ANTONIO — The loss of the game was really not the major problem — it was a close encounter with a good Crystal City squad in the bi-district round of the playoffs. The Javelinas scored the only touchdown in the second half — and won the two-point, post-TD contest — two successes to zero — to win, 22-18, at Veterans Stadium, the night before Veterans Day. The unfortunate evidence against the Jackets was most bothersome — not taking advantage of ...

Dear Editor, The City of Llano resolution that was passed and approved by the city council on April 6, 2015 is so beautifully written and it perfectly describes the sentiment and values of our City and Llano citizens by stating, “the City of Llano and residents recognize the Texas Hill Country for its rich cultural heritage, breathtaking scenic beauty, and ethics for land stewardship.” It states, “the increased use of night illumination has negatively impacted the enjoyment of the night s ...
