Who’s Mother Neff? That’s the question Allan C. Kimball asked himself as he passed the Mother Neff State Park sign near Moody, Texas. That started him wondering how the other120 State Parks got their names, which resulted in his book, Who is Mother Neff and why is she a state park? Kimball shared some of his research with the Woman’s Culture Club of Llano at their monthly meeting by giving a brief history of Mother Neff and how many of the state parks got their names.

On Monday, Llano Elementary hosted an open house highlighting the new buildings and improvements to the school. A special ribbon cutting ceremony was the highlight of the open house that began at 5:30 p.m. at the new main entrance to the campus. The Llano ISD board of trustees heard a pitch from the Boys and Girls Club at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting. Llano County Attorney Rebecca Lange introduced Bill Drake, executive director of Burnet and Marble Falls Boys and Girls Clubs. Buchanan Dam Fire Chief Mark Hutson was shocked when he walked into the fire station last Friday morning. After receiving multiple calls that the station’s bay doors were open, the fire chief walked in to find a mess with broken glass, damaged equipment and other items piled up. Annual event was a huge success
For many, the projects started a year ago, while some started in the summer and others started in the fall. But for all, it was hard work done with love and care. The 2017 Llano County Junior Livestock show is now in the books, but what a weekend it was for exhibitors and spectators alike.
The Llano County 4-H club has been a community tradition for many generations. For some, it has even becomes a family tradition to be passed down from parents to their animal-loving children. Remi Easley, 12, has been involved in 4-H since the second grade. She has stuck with it these four years because it is not only a great way to learn new things, but also because she has a deep love for animals. “Pigs make great friends,” she said.
I’ve been doing some painstaking research, which has taken a lot of time away from a busy schedule of watching basketball games. But, I think it has paid off. So you think Clemson is the National Champion in college football this season? I think a recount is needed — and only a small group of youngsters in Leningrad tried to botch this digging, and, fortunately, they were caught by police in Tuscaloosa, who — wrongly
Two more rough district encounters for the Llano boys, who ran into full-court presses that must have seemed at times they were like an elephant in the jungle pursued by a leopard. “Definitely wears you down,” said Jaden Napolez, who appeared to have the ball more than any teammate — in a backcourt that resembled a UFC cage. The first obstacle was at Liberty Hill, January 10.
The Lady basketball Jackets lost to Liberty Hill and Taylor, January 10 and 13, with the setback to the Panthers on the 10th, but we’ll call chronological order not always so logical and first discuss the Ducks’ visit to Llano. “The kids played well,” said head coach Jerry McSherry. “{and} executed a good scheme well.” This one was close throughout, and Taylor led, 43-38, after three quarters.

Morris of Highland Village, Texas, Dale Wayne Pitts of Harden, Texas and Roy Pitts; five grandsons; one granddaughter; his mother, Clara L.
Surrounded by her family, Sondra Holtzer quietly passed us by, heaven-bound, on Jan. 15, 2017. Sondra was born April 1, 1946, the loved daughter of Norman and Julia Oestrich Holtzer, and was raised in Llano. She made her adult home in Burnet. Sondra was a daughter, sister, mother, aunt, friend and child of God. Sondra appreciated growing things and had a beautiful yard and flowers.
