Friends of the Red Top Jail
Dear Honorable Judge and Commissioners,
The Friends of the Llano Red Top Jail appreciate your consideration in allocating Llano County Hotel Occupancy Tax Funds to further Llano County’s historic preservation through the repair and restoration of the unique Red Top Jail, one of Llano County’s historic treasures.
The Red Top Jail built in 1895 served as the only Llano County Jail for 87 years and is a historic landmark in the County of Llano.
Llano Elementary School received a $4,000 grant from Dairy Max to be used to promote health and fitness at school. This year, the funds will be used to purchase wall art to encourage healthy food selections in the cafeteria and a fruit slicer to create more visually appealing fruit choices.
Also, the physical education department will be getting a DrumFIT kit used to improve fine motor skills, movement, coordination, reflexes, spatial awareness, eye-hand coordination and cognitive association.

She moved to Austin in 1988, where she worked as a deputy for the Precinct 3 Travis County Constable.
The burn ban is still off in Llano County. After heavy winds created a Red Flag Warning day on Sunday, the county commissioners discussed reinstating the burn ban but ultimately decided not to do so.
“If we would’ve had this meeting (Sunday), I certainly would’ve bee inclined to reinstate it,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Linda Raschke said.
As of Monday’s meeting, there were 55 counties statewide with burn bans on, but only one neighboring county - Mason County - currently has a burn ...
Local man goes behind the walls with prison ministry
Most men look forward to getting out of prison, but Llanonite Marc Sagebiel looks forward to going behind prison walls at least every other month. Sagebiel, born and raised in Llano, joined the prison ministry organization, “Bill Glass Behind the Walls,” three years ago and has been going to speak to men incarcerated in prisons around Texas ever since.
“To have someone come sit with them, that will look them in the eyes and talk to them, that means something,” said Sagebiel, who in ...

Additional alcoholic beverage options could be available in Llano establishments later this year.
The city council last Tuesday accepted a petition for a local option election in May, which if passed by voters would allow the sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages.
Gail Lang, who in the fall said she started the petition as a citizen and not a city council member, submitted the petition on Dec.
Since my Inauguration Ball invitation was lost in the mail, I got a chance, January 20, to see a rare district basketball game not involving Llano.
We’ll get to that contest after I report on the visiting Salado boys’ 56-27 whipping of the Jackets, January 17. In a one-win season (0-6 in district), this was particularly nasty: 13-2 after a quarter,
30-5 at half, 38-10 through three periods.
“Very forgettable,” said head coach A ...
The Lady Jackets showed improvement from an 18-point loss in December at Salado, but they still missed by several meters of beating the Eagles, January 17. Salado turned a 30-30 tie after three quarters into a 46-40 win. There was a bye on January 20.
“The kids are playing hard,” said head coach Jerry McSherry. “Wish they could get a win.” They are now 1-6 in district with five games remaining.
Salado made its big statements&nb ...

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Willie was correct years ago when he wrote, “Turn out the lights, the party is over.” Well we have turned out the lights, but the beautiful tree away, collected the beautiful bows, taken out the trash and thrown the tree away. Now the excitement and exotic and unexplained joy of all of the gifts is beginning to disappear.
But wait, Billie wrote another verse, “and tomorrow night will start the same old thing again.”
But see, we have a probl ...

Come out and see the best of Llano at the 93rd annual Llano Chamber of Commerce banquet. The event will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the John L. Kuykendall Event Center. The social hour kicks off at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
Why join the Llano Chamber of Commerce? That is a question we hear all the time, and we love to answer it. First and foremost, it is being a part of the community. The chamber works daily on ways to promote Llano and getting people into town. We depend on our businesses to be here and open so we can tell the many visitors that come to town about them.
In 2016 we had 13,934 recorded visitors to the Visitor Center that wanted to know where to eat, shop, stay and play.
