The Llano City council accepted a portion of East Houston Street at Monday’s council meeting. In a 4-0-1 vote, with councilman Glenn Conner abstaining, the council accepted by implication the portion of East Houston Street between Chattanooga and Wells avenues.
Councilman Paul Hull said it was time for the city to accept the street and fix an issue that wasn’t properly handled in the past.
“These are platted city lots,” he said.

Someone once said, “If you want a study in American History, read the Sears & Roebuck Catalogs.” That was the theme of the program at the Woman’s Culture Club’s March meeting.
Aileen Roberts and Lynn Blankenship (curators of the San Saba County Historical museum) and Rosemary Cox (a board member) presented the history and an insight into the revolutionary effect that the catalog and mail order sales had on rural American lives.

On Saturday, March 18, four men buried in the Tow Cemetery in Llano County were recognized by the Former Texas Rangers Association for their ranger duties in the Frontier Battalions in Llano County during the end of the Civil War.
At the time the men volunteered, they had no idea they would ever be granted the privilege of Ranger status, but in later years, in recognition of their service, they earned the title.
A 64-year-old man was arrested early Monday morning at the Llano airport after authorities discovered large quantities of illegal drugs. Wayne Douglas Brunet landed at the Llano airport after attempting to land at multiple locations in the state. Authorities discovered 230 pounds of hydroponic marijuana on board the aircraft he was flying.
‘Llano chose me’ says Montana man researching family history
Robert Richardson of Florence, Montana, came to Llano to research his family history but what he found surprised him. “Turns out one, maybe two, of my great grandfathers were run out of town around the time the Texas Rangers went up against the San Saba Mob,” he said. “And I’m not sure what side of the battle they were on.”
Originally a vigilante group that kept law and order in San Saba County, the mob soon turned ruthless and ran roughshod over the county for most of the mid-18 ...
Mac Edwards is leaving one paradise in north Texas for a different one near the banks of the Llano River. Edwards, a veteran educator serving as superintendent of Paradise ISD in north Texas, was named the lone finalist for the Llano ISD superintendent post on Monday evening. State law requires a three-week waiting period after being named the lone finalist for a superintendent position before one can officially be tabbed for the job.
“I am very honored that Llano ISD has entrusted me wi ...
It’s the “Flying Grizzly” from Glenn High! His return-landing was a bit short of the finish line (second base), and Drew Baker makes the tag. Superb photography by Briley Mitchell.

LEANDER — It was 2014, and The Wall was something you “hit” when you had run about as far as you should. Casey Affleck wasn’t as well-known as Casey at the Bat. Sugar free was still winning a race for importance with gluten free.
And, ‘14 was the last year the Llano High softball Jackets won a district game.
LEANDER — A pair of fours is not a strong hand at the poker table, but back-toback fours by a baseball team is aces, and Llano scored an equally-divided eight runs in the third and fourth innings, March 17, to beat Tom Glenn High, 8-3.
“Any district win is a good win,” said head coach Stephen Campbell, who saw his team rebound from a 7-3 loss to Lampasas in the 19-4A opener three nights before.
“Pretty or ugly,” Campbell added, “glad to have it.”
I’d say “pretty” won by ...
WACO — It was a remarkable run — from her first powerlifting meet, ever, in January—to the State Championships two months later. Llano High sophomore Courtney Reina, March 17, finished 10th in Class 4A. Yes, that’s 10th from the list of 14 gifted finalists — but how many thousands of others didn’t lift, didn’t make it to region, didn’t make it to the Extraco Events Center on the ultimate stage?
Did she foresee this instant progress: “No,” she told me.
After serving 37 years in the ministry, including the last 27 and one half years as pastor at First Baptist Church, Llano, Bro. Rick Cundieff will be retiring from Pastoral Ministry effective April 30, 2017. His last Sunday in the pulpit in Llano will be Sunday, April 2nd.
To honor Bro.
Dear Editor,
I’m writing because I have recently discovered a treasure we have in Llano. It’s called the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Llano. But I call it the Llano Hospital. For me, it was a place to get a blood test, or just drive by and watch the employee parking lot dwindle as the work funneled off to the new facility on Highway 71.
But now, I have been blessed to be a partaker of its inner sanctum.
