On Saturday, June 1 at approximately 3:40 p.m., Burnet County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the scene of a reported job site accident involving two fatalities on undeveloped land near State Highway 71 and Twisted Oaks Drive (south of Horseshoe Bay near the Llano County line). Upon arrival, deputies met with personnel from the Marble Falls Area EMS, who confirmed that two workers had been killed. By Carole Leeder In a special called meeting on Thursday, May 30, the City Council approved ordering the components for the splash pad that was destroyed in the October 16 flood. Director of Public Works, Eugene Long, said that the splash pad should be up and running six to seven weeks after everything has been ordered.
On Monday, June 3 Cristy Vaught discussed action regarding FEMA floodplain maps with City Council. According to Vaught, FEMA does not want to update the maps for all of Llano County. The map does not reflect current tributaries. “We just want something accurate,” stated Vaught. She suggested that the council send a letter to FEMA in support of the Commissioners Court. Llano Alliance for Drug Intervention (LADI) gave $5000 to the Boys and Girls Club.  Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Scantlin  of Sugar Land, Texas sent $500 which LADI voted to begin the collections for the Dale Fry Memorial Youth Camp Fund. The Time of Your Life On Friday night at Llano High School, the class of 2019 entered the history books as the latest to graduate from our local school. This group of 113 high school seniors left their mark in the classroom, as well as on the field of sports. Alyssa Lia Pruitt ‘Boespflug, daughter of Kennith and Stormy Boespflug, embodies all that it means to be a Texas cowgirl at the young age of 16. Whether it is searching for a lost steer or walking small children around on her horses, her love of animals is paramount.  She is no stranger to a strict schedule and holds her Texas values to high standards.
The Thrift Dimension is a thrift shop in Llano that benefits local nonprofit organizations. Previously loved household items, decorative objects, art, jewelry, clothing and more are available all at bargain prices. Donations are graciously accepted. Tonight I am honored to stand in front of you, the family, friends, and teachers of these fine individuals that we will soon call Llano High School graduates. I knew I would love this group from their very first class meeting with me three years ago as they began their sophomore year.
You may have already noticed, but Cox Paving is back in town and in full force on the Street Project. The rain and flooding from last fall caused delays that pushed the project into an unfavorable time of the year for paving. Cox Paving and their subcontractors have been repairing the base coat and potholes on many of the streets on the North side of town prior to application of rubberized chip seal, or the topcoat.
School’s out for SUMMER!! The kiddos are so excited, but how soon before that excitement turns to boredom?  Not to worry, parents, the Llano Library has you covered! Summer Reading Program starts this week and it’s a great way to fill some of those long, hot, “I’m bored”, summer days – and it will get your kids reading, too!
Plans are being made for the fourth annual Rock’N Riverfest and Jet Ski Races. It looks like it will be THE place to be on Saturday, July 6. Eugene Long, Director of Public Works and Chairman of the Christmas Lighting Committee that puts on the Rock’N Riverfest, is striving to get the splash pad ready in time.
The topic for today is kitchen gardens. Marion-Webster’s definition is a garden in which plants (such as vegetables or herbs) for use in the kitchen are cultivated. Location is an important subject. It is close to the kitchen door.  Some who like to figure measurements say 25 steps away. Some walk past it from the car to the door.
AUSTIN— For the second time in four years, the Legislature failed to pass a bill to establish basic standards of shelter and care for restrained dogs in Texas, the Texas Humane Legislation Network. Senate Bill 295 by Sen. Eddie Lucio of Brownsville would have improved basic standards for dogs and clarified the state’s current law, which law enforcement officers across the state have called unenforceable, said the organization’s executive director Laura Donahue. State leadership, joined by key lawmakers, announced Thursday they had come to a deal on top priorities laid out in January: lowering property taxes and reforming public school finance. "I said 'We will do what no one thought possible. We will finally fix school finance in Texas'," said Governor Greg Abbott.
The Central Texas population is growing as visitors venture to the Texas Hill Country and fall in love with the boundless beauties it has to offer. As more people make the move to the area, the increasing population will affect the water supply. John Cayce saw a need for water resources in the area, so he started a water well service in 1998, focusing on irrigation systems for houses and coastal fields.
Marble Falls—The Marble Falls/ Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the debut of Slide Marble Falls, an 850-foot water slide that will run through downtown Marble Falls on Saturday, June 15. The slide, owned by Urban Slide, is a gigantic inflatable slip-n-slide that will rise 40 feet above Main Street and run the length of nearly three football fields through the middle of downtown.

Through the years, I have been designated cook in camps from the wilds of Canada to south of the border. I absolutely love cooking outside and preparing meals that are simple and tasty. This past weekend while filming a cooking segment for my weekly outdoor show, I prepared a Dutch Kettle recipe that I learned years ago from the late Bob Hood who wrote about the outdoors for almost a half-century.
Seventeen years ago, Redneck Jedi formed in the small Texas town, Johnson City. Tucked quietly between Fredericksburg, Dripping Springs and Marble Falls, what would become one of Texas’ premier touring bands found humble beginnings. “The first break was our single ‘My Bud,’ which got the first spin at KFAN in Fredericksburg.
