Continuing to examine the unique aspects of Llano County from PAST years and in PRESENT times brings the project alphabetically to the letters "V" through "Z." "V" is for VINES. Llano County has always been home to native grape vines, mainly the Mustang Grape. Its fruit was a big part of the year-around diet of the early settlers, and almost every adult I knew when I was a kid also took advantage of the fruit's availability.
I was rearranging some bookshelves to make room for a few new books when it happened. I was in for a surprise and did not quite know it. There behind some books on my bookshelf was an old family photo album I had not seen in years. When I say old, I mean these were pictures taken when cameras were really cameras with film in them.
When 120 believers met to pray in an upper room in Jerusalem following the ascension of Christ, they had no way of knowing the impact they would have on future generations. As a result of that prayer meeting, the world would never be the same again. The task of evangelizing assigned to these people of faith by their Lord must have seemed impossible to carry out.
On Wednesday, May 6, Grace Episcopal Church will present a program "Testament of a Naked Man—Good News According to Mark". Colton is our Center of Attention. The Llano High junior lofted the shot put 51 feet, eight-and-a-half inches to capture the gold medal in the Area Track & Field Meet, April 23.
Llano High senior Tiger Maddox is about to become part of one of the most successful football teams in the country: Baylor. She won't be needed at linebacker, but she has been selected to be a cheerleader (Yell Leader) at BU—quite an accomplishment months before enrolling in Waco. "I am beyond excited for this opportunity,"
There are some games you want to win more than others. One, I imagine, is the last contest played in your ball park. It certainly will get a lot of attention. The players might take their kids to the fancy venue on campus and tell them how they shut down the old place.
AUSTIN—It took forever to decide. Darkness descended upon the historic Onion Creek Golf Club, which made it about as easy to see on the 18th hole as it is to see inside the cup. When all the hassle, all the talk, all the math was done, Llano had been proclaimed winner of the bronze medal in the state golf championships. "It's a fantastic experience,"
