March is National Nutrition Month—what better time to build a keyhole garden? Dr. Deb Tolman gave a great program last Saturday, and while “Rome wasn’t built in a day” our keyhole garden at the Food Bank was built in about 3 hours! We had 15 people stay after the program to help build it, and having Bob and Linda Laury and Craton and Wendy Hastings involved from the “get-go” was a huge factor in our success.

Opening Day for Mason Youth Baseball and Softball will be on Saturday, March 19th. Please come out and enjoy a day at the park. There will be a parade starting at 10 a.m. in front of the Dr Pepper Bottling Co. and ending at the ballpark. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10:30 and games will start at 11 a.m.

March 14, 2016 - Doss, Texas - Doss Volunteer Fire Department improved both its equipment and its capabilities with the help of a $15,000 grant from Texas A&M Forest Service. The cost share grant helped the VFD purchase several new items including a Rapid Intervention Team bag, a cascade system and a thermal imager. “This equipment is a new addition that will support many of the items we already have,” said Doss VFD Assistant Chief Mark Geistweidt.

The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, March 8th, for it’s weekly luncheon meeting. There were 40 members and 2 visitors in attendance. “Boss” Lion Joel Kuykendall announced a meeting of the new officer nominating committee to be held immediately after the regular meeting. Lion Mark Kirby was responsible for the program and introduced Jeff Guice who spoke about the Mason Cowgirl and Puncher basketball programs.

Last week’s paper had a letter to the editor that asked a number of questions regarding the City consideration of reestablishing a local Police Department. I am sorry if my articles have not been clear enough, and certainly this issue is much more complicated than can be summed up in a few paragraphs.
