   The Fredericksburg Tea Party will host Dwayne Stovall, founder of ‘Get Off My State’, Saturday, September 10, at The Hill Country University Center, 6 – 8:30 p.m. Get Off My State was created to give people that support federalism and States’ rights a place to congregate.    Dwayne’s vision is to advance liberty and freedom through educating people in the greatness of limited Federal Government and the evil that is an unlimited National Government.

   Ira Glenn Willmann    Ira Glenn "I.G. and Papaw" Willmann, 74, died on September 5, 2016 at his home in Mason, Texas after a long fought battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.    I. G. Willmann retired as a Wildlife Biologist from the Texas Parks and Wildlife after 43 1/2 years of service.

   Vendor applications for Old Yeller Day are now available at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library located at 410 Post Hill Street and the Chamber of Commerce on the square. Local vendors only may apply. Old Yeller Day takes place on Saturday, September 24th, on the Courthouse lawn.

   The annual meeting of the Central Texas Private Property Rights Coalition will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds Biergarten.    Registration, for the collection of annual dues, and social, will begin at 6:00 PM. A catered meal will be served at 6:30 PM, followed by a business meeting.

   The Puncher Club is hosting complimentary weekly Varsity game film screenings every Tuesday at 6:30 PM during the football season at the Odeon. Screenings are approximately 45 minutes in length and provide a fantastic opportunity to relive spectacular plays or perhaps catch a game that you were not able to attend!

   Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” like most of us, have our “little routines,” familiar habits that give order to our days, and, sometimes, insanity to our significant others (sorry, Tommy).    We have been putting our pantyhose on left leg first for 50 years and we see no reason to change it up.

   Congratulations to Cameron Urteaga - Mason Square Museum’s 30,000th visitor! He is shown in the accompanying photograph with Yolanda Flores, Dennis Evans, and Cameron’s dad, Sammy.    Docent Andy Delcuze had been keeping an eye on the visitor count and called Dennis and Kay Evans to report that the countdown was very close on Saturday, September 3rd.

   KERRVILLE, TX - Andrew LaBay will be the Texas Master Naturalist Hill Country Chapter’s speaker at the Monday, September 26th monthly meeting. Andrew is a Program Specialist based at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Viticulture and Fruit Lab in Fredericksburg, Texas. His work is focused on developing educational programs and providing technical support for grape growers in the Texas Hill Country.

   On October 8th, 2016, Wine in the Hill Country Honoring Mark Witt will take place at Pontotoc Weingarten in Fredericksburg, Texas.    Mason County Texas AgriLife Extension Office along with the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service are offering a Fall Range Supper on Thursday, September 29 from 5 to 8 PM at the Eckert Community Center in Mason. The community center is located at 1024 McKinley Ave.    There will be a 5PM catered meal followed by several presentations.

   The Punchers and Cowgirls kicked off their 2016 cross country season in San Saba on Wednesday and were able to bring home hardware with them.    The Varsity Punchers started the meet off with Jackson Chapman and Blake Mclaughlin leading our pack each running a 22:55 and placing 39th and 40th respectively.

I want the finished product to be thin, crispy and tasty. Up until this recipe, I have made dozens of crusts that meet at least two of the three requirements, but none of them have gotten it all right!

   The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, August 29th, for it’s weekly luncheon meeting. There were 35 members and 2 visitors in attendance.    “Boss” Lion Jess Irwin presented Lion Bruce Lehmberg the Lions Silver Award for sponsoring new members. “Boss” Lion Jess then read a thank you letter from L.C.I.F.

No admission fee for the presentation and no artistic ability required to paint! If you can’t make the morning shifts at 10:15 and 11:15, the afternoon shifts run from 1:30-6:00, with a repeat of the presentation at 6:30.

   You get what you pay for    When the Endangered Species Act was passed in 1973 it was, overall, a Good Thing. It all started with the bald eagle, our national bird, which was going south because lousy people were shooting them. You have to be a real jerk to shoot a bald eagle but, unfortunately, some people are real jerks.

   I’ve become a Facebook junie! Love the dog posts the most. The funnies bring a chuckle to my day. And the stupidity of folks gets my hackles up. It keeps me informed on friends and family. Some of my friends I’ve not seen since forever, but I still count them as friends.    Of course, I could be doing other things!

   After a tough loss during their opening week to Goldthwaite, the Mason Punchers showed that they are growing and improving every day by welcoming the Johnson City Eagles to town and defeating them 33-14.    Though the storms in the area never got close enough to be a threat, the warm temperatures and high humidity did plague the Punchers all night.

   Mary Jane Smith    Mary Jane (Bauer) Smith passed away on Friday, September 2, 2016, in Llano, Texas at the age of 83. Mary Jane was born on April 25, 1933, in Llano County to Walter and Mary E. (Morton) Bauer. She grew up in Castell, Texas and graduated at the early age of 16 from Llano High School.    Mary Jane married Willie M.

   John D. Leamons    John Duke Leamons, 84, of Tow Village passed away on Sept. 4th at home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17th at Tow Baptist Church. The eldest of Walter and Ethel Leamons’ 7 children, John was born on December 3, 1931 in Grapeland, Texas.

    Geneva Keller     Geneva R. Keller passed away September 5, 2016, in St. Louis, Missouri.    She was the wife of the late Charles Keller. Arrangements can be found at ziegenheinfuneralhome.com.    The family is being served by John L. Ziegenhein & Sons Funeral Homes in St. Louis.    A full obituary will appear in next week's issue.

   David Leifeste    David Hilton Leifeste departed from this life on August 31, 2016, surrounded by his family.    David was born to Maurice and Beth Leifeste on June 23, 1954, in San Marcos, Texas.
