Travel Time in Texas - Distance Not a Factor
Texas is the second largest state in the nation. For Texans, we don't measure our distances in miles; but, rather, we talk about our trips in terms of travel times. Therefor, we don't travel 120 miles, we tell people that our destination is two hours away.
The Heart of Texas Historians and Storytellers will be hosting their 4th annual event on September 18, 2016 at the Heart of Texas Event Center. This year the group is sponsoring two men who have a special connection to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco, Texas.
The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, September 6th, for it’s weekly luncheon meeting. There were 39 members and no visitors in attendance.
“Boss” Lion Jess Irwin stated that this is day number 250 for the year 2016. Jess then read a series of very funny red neck jokes. (You might be a red neck if there are 12 vehicles parked in your yard and only one of them runs).
“Boss” Lion Jess then read the schedule for the hamburger cook at the cross country meet to be held at the Maso ...
I have to tell you what fun we had creating the community painting last Thursday! We had a great turnout of people who painted. The art truly is uniquely Mason, and it’s strikingly beautiful. Just wait ‘til you see it! Vickie McMillan, the artist and guide for this journey, will come back for the unveiling on Old Yeller Day—we hope you come, too!

On September 5,1980, “Down the Drain With Jane,” was first published. So, where have the last thirty years gone? Well, they haven’t. I still write about Stupidity, Kids, Mr.’s, Stuff, Poinsettias, Peddlers and of course Dogs.
Nothing has changed in the Stupidity department. They are just more of them.

CTEC District Meeting
I attended the Gillespie County CTEC District meeting on June 16, 2016 and was disappointed by the lack of response from CEO Bob Loth to issues raised by a candidate for the board. Heinrich Boenig called for more accountability and transparency in the Co-op.
He stated that public corporations and some Coops (unlike our Coop) publish in their annual report the salaries of their senior executives and board directors.

Many of the City projects continue to move ahead as we work to improve and serve our community. We have received the mosquito insecticide and started some spraying last week and will continue this week to reduce that pesky population in our neighborhoods. Look for another article in this paper that will state the exact schedule and pattern of our mosquito spraying.
Were you outside Saturday morning when the cold front blew in? It almost felt like fall. I am ready for cooler weather.

In spite of some rather ominous weather forecasts earlier in the week, all we had was cool temperatures, a bit of wind, some sunshine and a few threatening-looking clouds on Saturday for the Annual Mason Bank Fundraiser Tournament. A good crowd of 34 golfers showed up, as well as several friends and family members of golfers to cheer them on and enjoy an excellent fajita supper that followed the Tournament.
The competition between the 7 teams was fierce but friendly.
