    King of the Crag     “Falling.”     That’s what rock climbers say, when they’re falling. Which sounds perfectly logical, of course. If you start to fall from the face of a cliff you’re trying to climb, it wouldn’t make any sense to shout, “Omaha!” or “AAAAHHHH!” Those code words have their place, I’m sure, but they aren’t useful for rock climbers, as a rule.
    Warren Eugene Ullom Jr. passed away on October 17, 2016. He was born on April 11, 1937 in Marion, Ohio to Sara and Warren Ullom Sr. Warren married Joyce Donop Trimble on May 22, 1986 in Lorraine , Ohio. Warren and Joyce resided in Round Rock for the past fourteen years.     Warren enjoyed golf and was an avid player until bad health limited his mobility.

Besides the "spooky" yard, those two made 300 to 400 gift bags to hand out to the eager little "trick or treaters"

    Third grade students at Mason ISD put seeds in the ground this week. Students successfully met the requirements for “GROW” in the Learn, Grow, Eat and Go program. Mason ISD students, parents and faculty began their competition to meet the requirements for “GO” by starting the Walk Across Texas program.     Mason Building Supply donated seeds including carrots, radishes, lettuce, kale, spinach, squash and others for the students to plant.
    The Mason Ladies Golf Association held their annual meeting on Oct 17. Several members enjoyed a 9 hole cross country tournament, a putting contest, & then all met at Kay Evans home for our luncheon & meeting.     After a review of the past year's activities our new officers were elected.
    The JV White team played Wall for a third consecutive time last week.     They played hard and continued to progress and get better. The Punchers fell to the Wall Hawks 21-0. It was a hard fought game and they lost to a good Wall team.
    7th vs. Glenn Junior High     The 7th grade Punchers played a tough game against Glenn Junior High. Unfortunaetly they ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. We made some good catches and had some decent runs but we could never quite get anything put together.

    Sue Gierisch, aka Grammies Goodies, has been selling her products at the Farmers Market from its beginning. Sue creates wonderful body creams from all natural products, including shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, sweet almond oil and essential oils. At the market, you can choose your favorite fragrance and she will put it together right then for you.
    Fall is in the air and Halloween is just around the corner! Come spend a delightful day with us on Saturday, October 29th in Mason. Over 20 artists from the Hill Country will be participating in the Mason Fall Arts Fest from 11am-4pm. The historic Seaquist House will have a storyteller for children from 11am-Noon.
    The start of the second six weeks began with studies in Texas History and art. The staff is getting an education, too. Teachers and administrators have been receiving training in different areas over the last month.     The Friends of Doss had their monthly meeting Monday October 10.
    The Cowgirls and Punchers held the District 27AA cross country meet at the City Park this past Wednesday. We would like to thank the golf course members for closing the golf course for us to run, the city, the school faculty, parents, the band boosters and all of the volunteers who came out to help put on the meet.
    The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, October 18th, for it’s weekly luncheon meeting. There were 36 members and 7 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were 4 Mason High School Seniors. Elijah Timms plans on attending either Southwestern University or Texas A & M, Margaret Graves has been accepted at Texas A & M, I did not hear where Jody Evans plans on attending, and Jessica Hanscheck plans on attending either A.S.U.
    Mason knows how to celebrate Halloween. From a soiree to an artfest and more, folks have a lot of terrorific choices. But don’t miss the library’s goings-on! Thursday, John L. Davis’s presentation on vampires is sure to be creepily informing and fun, and Miss Shay and Mr. Bones will entertain with Halloween stories at the Seaquist House on Saturday from 11:00-12:00.
   So often, I see postings online, or in articles and pieces submitted to me, that express a yearning to return to the "good old days." Most people aren't specific when they put forward that dream...     Sometimes I just don’t have any perspiration (Aspiration)! This seems to be one of those times. The networks on television don’t have any, either. They're all reruns! If you want to get your blood pressure up, you can watch the news channels. When you're at the bottom of the channels, go back to the cooking network and get hungry!

    Things continue to be busy with the cooler weather. The Street crew is working hard to get most of the potholes and some of the curb edging worked over. Also if you travel in the area of the new bridge over Comanche Creek be aware that in the next week or two the City will be putting up speed limit signs, “Children at Play” signage in the proper areas, and new Stop signs at some of the intersections to provide for better traffic flow and reduce some of the speeding along longe ...

    LUBBOCK, TX – Today, Sen. Charles Perry announces a series of town hall forums across the district, with a stop in Mason, Texas.     Sen. Perry said, “Town halls are a great way for citizens to get engaged in the political process without traveling all the way to Austin.
    Mason citizens are better informed on early detection and awareness of breast and cervical cancers thanks to several area partners who were represented at a Pink Fiesta event.     The event was held on Thursday, October 20 at the First United Methodist Church. Attendees packed the room to listen to speakers, visit exhibits, enjoy a free meal and register for several door prizes and health screenings.

    There had been some talk last week that indicated Bracketville might pose a challenge this season in our district.     Lawrence Spell, Jr., of Mason, passed away on Friday, October 21, at the age of 69.     Mr. Spell is survived by two sons Lawrence Spell III of Jasper and Jesse Spell and wife Brittany of Lumberton and a sister Velma Barras and husband Gene of Nederland.     He was preceded in death by a sister Laura Spell.     Visitation with the family was Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
    Walter Vinson Barwise of Mason Texas, has gone home to be with the Lord. He passed peacefully on Monday October 17, 2016, in Fredericksburg Texas at the age of 80.     Walter is survived by his son Dr. Britt Barwise and his wife Christy Barwise of Port Aransas, his two cherished grandchildren Kylee Ann Barwise and Mason Thomas Barwise also of Port Aransas, Texas and his sister Patricia Hardage of Little Rock Arkansas.     He is joined again in Heaven with his b ...
