Justyn Lee Tedder of Mason, TX has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).
“NSCS is more than just a symbol of academic achievement. Membership gives students access to a number of amazing benefits including career and networking resources, scholarships, travel, and service projects both on campus and in the community,” says Stephen E.
On Wednesday, April 4th Mason hosted the 27AA Varsity and Junior Varsity tennis tournament at the Helen Tallent Tennis Courts. The Mason High School tennis team had an outstanding showing at the district tournament winning first and second in every division in the varsity tournament and first place in every division in the junior varsity tournament.
The Mason Lions Club met April 3rd for their quarterly business meeting. There were 31 members and 3 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were 2 Mason High School seniors: Julie Mae Drazan and Araceli Olvera.
President Jim Heidelberg mentioned that the club will hold a noontime hamburger cook on the courthouse square this Friday, April 6th.
Mrs. Annissa Habecker assisted these students in preparing to enter the Mason County Soil & Water Conservation District poster contest. This year's theme was “Healthy Soils are Full of Life.” Each winner received a ribbon & a $10 gift certificate to the Odeon Theater.

The annual spring fundraiser for the Steady Steps pre-school program will be held on April 21,2018 at the park both in the form of a golf tournament and dinner/auction , all at the City park. The Golf will start at 11:30 with a lunch, fol- lowed by pre-registration at noon with tee-off for the 18 hole Golf Scramble at 1:30 p.m.

Jesse Armstrong didn’t allow a single run against Ozona, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Mason Cowgirls to a 11-0 victory on Thursday.
Mason Cowgirls opened up scoring in the first inning. Mason Cowgirls scored two runs when Armstrong singled.
Mason Cowgirls tallied four runs in the second inning.

The MHS Pioneers have been hard at work on several different aspects of the Dark Skies Initiative in the last few months. Last week the students completed a detailed evaluation of our MISD school property and our outdoor lighting. The Pioneers will be presenting their findings and recommendations to the school board at their regularly scheduled meeting on April 23rd.

The Mason County Historical Commission will be holding its annual symposium this coming Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Odeon Theater. The topic this year is : “Herman Lehmann: Indian or Anglo?”
MCHC member Scott Zesch will be the MC for the program. A film (originally made in German) will be shown in its English version.
“Amazing Women: 4 German Girls, 25,000+ Miles, 18 Months, 0 Money” is a movie waiting to be made. The story details the odyssey of Sigrid Carter and her three life-long friends who, in their twenties in 1964, journeyed from Colorado to Central and South America traveling, as the title states, over 25,000 miles in 18 months with no money.
The Mason Farmers Market will open April 21 and return every Saturday evening, 5 to 7 p.m., until mid-July. A diverse group of vendors this year will offer pasture-raised meats, organic vegetables, artisan breads, Mexican specialties, cosmetics and canned goods at booths ringing the shady area between Mason Burger and Mason County News office on the east side of the Square.

We are Hill Country Cattlewomen, non-profit organization, and hold various fundraisers to award scholarships, promote beef education and much more. Because of this , we have posted information at no charge in the past.

The Castell Area Wildlife Management Association will be hosting a pot luck meeting on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the Trinity Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Castell, TX. The CA WMA invites anyone to attend who is interested in meeting their neighbors and fellow hunters as well as anyone interested in wildlife management practices.

Blumberg, Albertine "Bertha" Blumberg Kaiser, August Blumberg, Henriette Blumberg Elley (von Elterlein), Fritz A. Blumberg, Ernest Blumberg, Hulda Blumberg Koepsel) will be held on April 21st at the McQueeney Lions Club.

Joan Margaret Williams was born on April 16, 1932, in Hicksville, New York, to Roland Wenner and Helen Zatorski Wenner. She died at her son’s home in Lawton, Oklahoma, on Saturday, April 7. Joan grew up in Hicksville and went to nursing school after graduation from high school.
Joan met her future husband, Cecil Williams while he was serving in the United States Navy and was stationed at the Brooklyn Naval yard.
Bobbie Ruth Bass was born February 13, 1931, in Anna, Texas, to Roby and Elkanah Bass. When Bobbie was 3 years old her mother Elkanah passed away, leaving 6 children. A year later Roby married Julia Barton.
Bobbie passed away on Friday, April 6, at the age of 87 at her home in Mason.
She is survived by her children Connie Bass of Belton, John Mahaffey and wife Annette of Boerne, Bobbye Hansen and husband Mickey of Grand Junction, Colorado and Sandra Gosse and husband Brock of Aransas Pass ...

Heroes of Undistinguished Acclaim
One of the early business pioneers of Mason was James Ranck. Along with brother-in-law and business partner, William Lockhart, Mr. Ranck helped to develop the tiny settlement growing up around Fort Mason into the town that still bears traces of his work even today. But, Mr. Ranck, like so many Mason residents through the years, had a selfless desire to see his adopted hometown prosper, and sometimes made decisions that did not benefit him in the long term.

Sheila came across this recipe while cruising the internet, and she thought it sounded perfect for The Practical Baker. Simple, straight-forward, quick, and fast. I tried it and the resulting rolls were an absolute delight, and will become a regular guest at our dinner table.

My great grandfather emigrated from Sweden to America on a cattle boat, so I’ve always been kind of interested in Swedish stuff. I’m not excessive about it – I’ve never traveled to Sweden, or actually done any research or anything, but if I happen to see a news story about Sweden I might read it.
