Don't Need Much, But, Give Me My Music! It started when I was just a kid. When we would go to bed at night, we had a radio at the bedside. KNEL reduced their power output at night; but, XROK in Del Rio turned up the power to their transmitter located over in Acuna, and I could listen to the songs that weren't on Brady's playlist! Riding in the pickup or car with Mama or Daddy was always a constant fight over station selection.
Not Funny If the Mason County News wants to continue to run Kendall Hemphill’s column I would strongly suggest that the paper require that he change his title from “outdoor humor columnist” to “political opinion columnist.” Mr. Hemphill’s column for many years has been less humorous and less about the outdoors and more about politics.
Grandmas Thousands of children are walking out of school to call attention to the need for gun reform. American children are afraid to go to school. Let that sink in. American children are afraid to go to school. Maybe not in Mason. I don’t know. I hope not. I have grandchildren in Dallas and Denton; cities with far more potential for gun violence.
Pets Gerry - Unbelievable! The turf war between the petsitters and the pet boarders has commenced. I'm not touching this one with a ten foot pole. I just wonder when I will be able to stop laughing. These are two good options that are available locally. Caring for pets is not a one size fits all propisition. Carolyn Karner
Crock Pot Bread; Easiest Bread You Ever Made! We make lots of things in our crock pot, since it provides us with a way to dump in a bunch of ingredients and then walk away and do other things for the time it takes for the pot to do its magic.
As you begin to travel and make plans for vacations, don’t forget that books on CD can make the miles fly by. They’re also great if you commute to work, and some folks even listen to books as they do their housework or other tasks. We’re getting new ones in every week, so come in and take a look!
The little sign that couldn’t Last week I promised to offer my suggestions for reducing gun crime in America, and I will, but there’s a problem with that. The issues we face can’t be dealt with in 800 words. When I started trying to decide in what order to address the areas that need fixing, I realized there are way too many problems to address in one column.
Looketh Unto the Hills… Waxing biblical comes easily when one visits beautiful Colorado. If we “looketh up”--as the psalmists did--we can do them one better on the topic of elevation. In Psalm 121, they “lifted their eyes unto the hills” from which “cameth” their strength. How about gazing even higher--yea, toward the mountains, for relaxation and refreshment?
Macaroni with Sausage & Ricotta A little bit of sausage goes a long way to adding the creamy ricotta sauce in this healthy and quick pasta recipe. While this recipe calls for macaroni, you can make this dish with any tubular pasta. This is just the thing to gratify your craving for comfort food in a hurry. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil or canola oil ½ cups finely chopped onion 6 oz.
