The hot and dry weather continues, even if occasionally we have a brief shower, and our area is under a growing threat of significant drought. The County has enacted a burn ban, and now the City is moving into a Mandatory Water Conservation stage in our water usages. There is another article in this paper about the restrictions, and I have talked about this for the past few weeks in my column, but if you leave water sprinklers on during the middle of the day do not be surprised if a City empl ...

I am NOT tech savvy. I should have me a T-shirt made that had this printed on it, but since this is a small community, word travels faster than a T-shirt.
I guess coming from the “old school”, I have to get over :”followers” being seen as Elvis fan type “followers”…”likes” ...

Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” who are trying our best to enjoy life to the fullest, journeyed to Llano in July, “taking the party” to Mary Ellen Merkel, one of our own who now resides there. A small but select group made the trip, where we enjoyed a pot luck luncheon and, of course, we talked about the people who didn’t attend.

Picking Your Disaster!
When you watch the news, it's almost impossible, on any day, to not have a live report from a reporter, somewhere in the world, letting us know about a disaster occurring somewhere in the world.
This week, it's been easy to find some of those disasters. On the east coast, flooding has caused problems in parts of Maryland.

The fellow who posted this recipe on allrecipes.com says that it originated with his great, great grandmother, and that he won first place at his state fair with it. I’ve tried it a few times, and I always get a first place from the folks who eat some of them!

There’s a new guy on the “poor me” stage, and I’m talkin’ real life.

Still HOT.
More HOT.
Even HOTTER.
HOT.
Hace calor hoy.
And tomorrow.
And the day after tomorrow.
‘Tis summer.
‘Tis the season.
‘Tis August.
Il fait chaud.
Dry, too.
Drouthy.
Drains the wells.
And one’s energy.
Dries up the tanks.
Distresses the livestock.
The flora and fauna.
And the pocketbook.
More feed.
Less cattle.
More water.
More wells.
